Quiz Whiz - History product reviews

Quiz Whiz is designed to be used in three ways: children can test themselves and each other with quick-fire quizzes; use the quizzes to gain straightforward question-and-answer information; or enjoy reading through the colourful, informative spreads and hunting for facts.

Following on from Quiz Whiz and Quiz Whiz Nature, this third title in the series contains more than 300 questions and answers about history on its information-rich pages. The text is geared perfectly for the age group, with smaller paragraphs, larger fonts and eight questions per spread. One picture dominates most spreads to give focus and clarity to the subject.

Okay, at first thought (and sight) this book looked a bit boring, but when I got further into the book, I started learning a lot more things. For example: I learned that The first ancient race called the "Homo erectus" were the first people to hunt, and that they learned how to start fires by striking a piece of flint against a stone to create a spark. The pictures were great, some of them were real photos, some were cartoons, and some were just coloured sketches, but they still had a good look to them.

The accuracy was awesome, I knew some of the facts, and by comparing them to the ones in this book, I was glad to see they both came out the same. The fun value was a little bit below the centre line, but I still enjoyed reading this book as part of my daily reading. The topics this thing covered were good, it teaches lots of facts (Over 300) and it goes from what the first humans were like, to telling us about the modern world, so it gives us a good understanding of what we did in the years we've left behind.

I would recommend this product for kids 7+, simply because the vocabulary is not the kind of thing a 5 year-old could read, but there are no traces of bad language, and it was a good educational value. I hope your kid/s have fun with this. Enjoy!

Quiz whiz history is the third in this series apparently, and although I have never seen the first two books, if this one is anything to go by I am certain the first two will also be worth investing in.

I am seriously impressed with the content, the pictures, the questions, the lay out and more...and at just $16.50 you are definitely getting your money's worth and then some. You would truly expect the books to cost much more than they do, and I was surprised to see the small cost to buy. I would have expected it to be at least around $30.00 per book, and so to find they are half this price is definitely something to smile about.

As adults, a group of us decided yesterday to test our knowledge...the result: a few laughs, and the realization that we really should fully read the book rather than assuming because we are grown up we know everything :) but on the bright side, now know a bit more than we did before LOL Icon

We have also had a lot of fun going through the questions with our children, and best if all they are learning things in a fun and exciting way, not just from being asked a bunch of questions with a bunch of multiple choice questions. It's learning and it's best, and like I said fun too.

As an added bonus there are a number of different era,s/categories so there really is something for everyone. My kids really enjoyed the section on mayans because they were able to relate it back to a movie they had seen 'eldorado' and in turn got a few of the questions right thanks to that movie.

This really is an awesome book, would make a wonderful gift that anyone would be impressed with, child and adult. And as a result we intend on purchasing the other two in the series.

Thanks heaps KIWIreviews for the opportunity, we have really enjoyed the Quiz Whiz History book and do hope there are more in the series to come.

A great quiz book is hard to come by, but this is definitely one worth talking about.
