Back Off Bully product reviews

Everyone gets bullied at some stage in their lives, whether it be at school, at work, at home or on the sportsfield.

From the moment your child starts playgroup or school and some kids steals their lunch or favourite toy, parents worry about bullying. It's no wonder. Everyone has experienced bullying behaviour, and childhood memories of miseries in the playground or at home with siblings puts parents on alert.

Mark Dobson knows all about it. As a schoolboy he watched bullies in the playground and when he joined a youth club it became even worse. As a youth worker he decided what was needed were effective strategies to help both adults and children, and today he runs countless workshops both in Australia and overseas on self-esteem and beating bullies.

Back Off Bully offers practical strategies to help you:
- Deal with the schoolyard bully
- Confront bullies at work or in the family
- Talk to the boss who won't listen
- Resolve conflict without tears

This book witll change lives.

This book is great! I borrowed it from the library with keen interest to help our son with a bullying problem he is having at school right now. We've used it as a starting point for a discussion on bullying, and a follow-up guide throught this past week. We have been trying out the techniques and they're working very well already!

First of all, I like how he makes you aware that the bully is not always just the kid at school who is punching you. Bullying is the teasing as well, the put-downs, all the behaviours to make you feel bad, and bullying can be from adults and towards adults too. It could be your parent, your boss, your co-worker, your associate. So, given that, I'm sure we've all been there at some point and will be again, so I feel this book is practically essential reading for parents and children, and also very valuable reading for anyone else as well.

In fact, applying some of the strategies further can be useful for just getting along with people in everyday life who are not bullying but are trying to start an argument. We found this to be true while practising the technique of not arguing back. The author explains that until you argue back it's only someone's opinion, and gives you tools on how not to get caught in the heat of the moment and to later discuss issues without argument.

Everything in this book was very well explained, and backed with great examples. Every type of bully was explained, every bully secret detailed made sense, and the strategies did too.

How has this book helped my son already in only three days? It's given him very clear strategies to use. It's given him the confidence to face the issue. It's become almost fun to go to school and think, yes, if they say this and that I am going to do this and that and I am not going to be bullied today!

This book is a MUST HAVE in every household, I feel. An absolute survivor's guide to anyone with kids, or who is being bullied.

This book starts off breaking a major misconception... ADULTS get bullied too, not just kids. Ay home, at work, in social circles... it happens, so accept it, and start to deal with it. It then illustrates and reveals the tricks of the bullies, making you VERY aware of what is really going on.

Then follows six simple and easy to grasp Strategies to deal with the various bullying styles, complete with sample dialogs and ways to keep the ball rolling in your favour.

As a parent of a young boy soon to encounter all this, I was overjoyed to receive this book, and it will become a prominant part of my library, first in the line in the "Kids" section. At the first signs of my son being bullied, I now know I have a clear, concise and powerful tool to help my son get through these trying times without the emotional scars I carried with me for many years, until I dealt with my own bully-days demons.

If you think you MIGHT need this book, for any reason, understand this... it would still be a worthwhile investment at double it's price. Don't quibble, dig deep, buy it, and breathe that sigh of peace one day.
