Chicken is not the cheapest meat to buy, and I didn't want to risk the cash on a potential failed meal, so I opted to test this spice mix a little 'outside the box' and instead thought about how it could possibly be used in other ways.

Recently, I had the chance to try some ready-made curry sauces. Knowing that I have the most spice-tolerant tastebuds in my family, I opted to cook up some rice instead of the much-preferred 'garlic mashed potatoes', doing a smaller separate portion for myself. I used cooked my portion of rice in a broth I made with some of the Butter Chicken Spice Mix added. A generous portion at that - a full tablespoon to cook a single portion of rice. It was amazing.

While the curry itself was a lot milder than I expected, having the added flavour from the rice was a godsend, lifting the meal up the spice rankings and right into the sweet spot for me - lots of flavour, a medium burn, and no acid reflux afterwards. I easily could have eaten seconds, if it wasn't such a filling meal in the first place. The blend of flavours was spot-on, and having the mix in a resealable bag is a brilliant idea. Boxes let in moister over time, jars can sweat, but this has been on the shelf untouched (part of the test) for over a month so far and the spice mix was still as dry and free-flowing as the day it was packed.

I have also used this mix as a 1:1 replacement for curry powder in devilled eggs, I have made a dip from it by mixing 2tsp of spice mix with a tub of sour cream and blending it completely then leaving it to sit in the fridge for an hour before giving it a final mix and serving it with carrot and celery sticks and florets of fresh brocolli - it was a stunner - and also added it to mashed spuds to give it that something really special - pop a generous blop of butter in a microwave-safe dish, add the spice mix, nuke on low power until the butter is soft, stir until well blended, then nuke on low power for another 15-30 seconds to infuse the flavours... then just add it to your spuds and mash well.

Overall, this is now one of my favourite flavours, in what is now my favourite range of spices. I cleaned out the spice rack and have replaced everything with this brand.

I am a huge Butter Chicken fan but rarely find an at home recipe that is anywhere near as good as you get at an Indian Takeaway but Mrs Rogers Butter Chicken seasoning is very high up there and will be a regular on our menu! The enclosed recipe seemed a lot but I froze enough for another meal as a family and two single meals for hubby to take to work for lunch so it worked out well with no waste.

I marinated the chicken in the seasoning and fried the ingredients in a pan before adding the chicken, I served it with rice and naan bread. It was just right for me and the kids but hubby prefers his a little spicier. I love the boxes that the spices come in and that the recipes are provided. The packaging is fully recyclable which is a huge advantage! I also think that it is great value as it would easily do three to four meals.

The whole family enjoyed the Mrs Rogers Butter Chicken and ate every thing on their plate! I would next time add some chilli's to hubbys portion but I think this is a personal preference overall a great addition to our family menu, easy to use and a fantastic product!

I have to say, I was pretty happy when I received a packet of this Butter Chicken Spice Mix to trial and review. My husband is pretty fussy when it comes to butter chicken and we had yet to find a mix that we both liked equally enough to repeat. When the parcel arrived I looked at the box and I quite liked what I saw, a plain box cardboard box with a peep hole in the front so you could actually see what you were getting and a sticker with all the details of what was inside which went over the top and down the back of the packet too. On the back there was an easy open tab which, when pulled, ripped a strip off the back allowing easy access to the spice mix.

When I opened the box I did note that part of the sticker across the back came off and it was the part that told me some of the ingredients that I needed so I tried to stick it back together which didn't work but I wrote the ingredients down for later. It would have been nice if there was a blank space on the back there so I didn't have to worry about missing out on this though.

On the back of the packet it mentioned that there would be a recipe inside for how to cook this Butter Chicken spice mix but I didn't manage to find any such recipe inside so instead I contacted Mrs Rogers through her Facebook page and very quickly got a response letting me know that she was going to alert production to check the stock and she also attached a recipe for me and gave me a few hints on how to make the flavour a bit more spiced if I preferred which I thought was very kind and I was very impressed at how quickly she responded to my questions.

The recipe said to fry some onions in some butter but I'm not a huge fan of onions so I decided to leave them out (although when my husband cooks it next time he will add the onions in) and instead I just fried 40g butter and added the packet of spice mix and let that fry for about a minute. Then I added in 750g of chicken and mixed it so that the chicken was fully coated in the spice mix and was cooked. I added in tomato paste, cream, yoghurt, water and mixed thoroughly and then let it simmer for 15 mins until the rice was cooked. We served it up with a bowl of white rice.

It was delicious! Both my husband and I thought so. The kids (1 & 3) devoured their full bowls and asked for more so it was a definite winner. It has a very mild taste which is expected and Mrs Rogers has given me a few hints on how to bring out more flavour which I might try next time. I sent Mrs Rogers another Facebook message to let her know what we thought of it and she shared another couple of ideas on how we could use the spice with skewers which we will be sure to try next time.

If you are searching for an authentic style Butter Chicken mix, you definitely need to try this one!

I absolutely love a good curry but am not the best at balancing the blend of spices correctly, so in the past I have generally relied on sauces, or pastes to create some indian sensations. So I was curious to give this dry mix a try. The back of the box gave an idea of the general ingredients needed to make a butter chicken meal, but lacked a full recipe. There was an insert on the inside of the packaging that explained how to make some "spanish-ish eggs" which was unexpected, but good to have alternative meals.

I learnt from the time that I used the Cajun Seasoning Mix, and I made sure to open the packet before I touched any meat/grease/water as the plastic becomes impossible to open otherwise.

I found the lack of a thorough recipe was actually a good thing. I ended up researching the best ways to make butter chicken, and learnt handy things (such as cooking the spices before adding the meat, instead of applying it to the meat beforehand) that I probably would have just forgotten if I was following a recipe on the back of a pack blindly.

So for the first time, I honestly feel like I have fully cooked the meal myself. The meal in the end was enjoyable. Very mild as would be expected, and through taste-testing during the cooking process, I managed to successfully add a perfect amount of birds eye chilis to bring some heat and extra flavour.

I was lucky enough to be given some of this butter chicken spice mix to review... and I mean lucky - it was yum! First there was a bit of an issue as there was no recipe enclosed like it said on the box, but I'm assuming this is only an issue with the review samples. It does give an indication on the box of the ingredients needed and luckily the recipe was sought out and supplied by another reviewer and I was away...

The first thing I noticed was that this needed 750g of chicken which is a lot for our family of 3, but this suited me fine as I instantly knew it would do us for 2 meals and I was right. In fact if you padded it out with lots of rice and naan bread, I reckon you could easily stretch it to 2 nights for a family of 4 too (at least a family of 4 small eaters anyway!).

I do tend to make my butter chicken from scratch these days so I was interested to see how it compared, but I have to say that this spice mix well and truly comes out as a top method. My husband loved it and raved over it so much - taste, texture and after taste were all top notch he said. My 6 year old went back for seconds too - a big plus when chicken isn't her favourite thing in the world. I too loved it and loved that it's so easy to make and at a reasonable price too - I'll be making this again for sure. And I'm only feeling a little bit hurt that this spice mix rated much higher than making my own!

A top notch product in lovely packaging which apparently is eco friendly - I even read on the Mrs Rogers Facebook page that the little box can be used to grow seedlings in. I highly recommend this for a tasty, easy butter chicken without any heat factor but with plenty of flavour. I can't fault anything so 10 out of 10 from me!

Received this this morning and was wrapped as that solved the dinner delima. Needed something that was potentially fast and easy. Looking at the back of the box it had ingredients that would be required and said that the recipe is enclosed. Easy ingredients: Chicken, Butter, Onion, Tomato Paste, Cream and Yoghurt. Had everything besides the cream so picked some up after a busy day.

To open the box, their is a tag at the back of the box (which has to be said is very cute) which says 'Pull tab to open and enjoy' nice and simple. Opened like a dream, pulled the sachet bag out and looked for the promised recipe but could not find. There was nothing enclosed. So I jumped on to the website www.mrsrogers.com and looked for Butter Chicken but could not find. So goggled it and again nothing turned up. Turned to my trusty KIWIreviews site and found that no one had trialled yet. Was suggested I ring the number which is included on the box. Rang the customer service who was not sure of the recipe either - did suggest fry the onions and butter then add chicken and spice afterwards which I thought was a little weird so went with my own method.

I covered the chicken in the spice which smelled fragrant and covered beautifully. Used less that half a bag and refridgerated for just under an hour. Fried up the onions with the butter than added the covered chicken followed by the tomato paste, cream and yoghurt, let it simmer for around five minutes and served with rice, more yoghurt and naan bread.

My girls loved it and quickly finished there plate and both asked for seconds and then thirds. My husband and I both remarked that there was too much yoghurt and not enough flavour. So next time I will not add the yoghurt to the sauce and instead offer it as a side. I think I would also cover more in the spices. For the price it is extremely good value.

We will definitely be buying again by the way the girls demolished the plate and how they kept asking for more. You know you are on to a winner if they finish before us. I did only serve small portions as was unsure if would be spicey or not but turned out I did not need to be concerned. I guess the great thing about this item is it is completely up to you on how spicy you make it.
