Tropic Thunder product reviews

Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. lead an ensemble cast in "Tropic Thunder", an action comedy about a group of self absorbed actors who set out to make the most expensive war film. After ballooning costs force the studio to cancel the movie, the frustrated director refuses to stop shooting, leading his cast into the jungles of Southeast Asia, where they encounter the real bad guys.

We borrowed this on DVD after hearing all the talk about it. I watched it with my husband and we both found it to be very funny. But you watch it a second time and that's when you start to pick up on everything that isn't good with it.

The characters were awful, not only in the acting but their personalities. The plot was just plain stupid, actually, most of the film was just plain stupid.

Not a movie I would pay to watch it again, and really only good for a night when there is absolutely nothing else to watch, at all, anywhere.

I was intrigued to see this movie however was left very disappointed. I found the movie to be to far fetched. I thought the movie had a great plot, but wasn't delivered very well.
I found the concept interesting, how the movie is about a movie being made.
I thought it was a bit far fetched that a director would go against the production company and take the cast into deep bush in Southeast Asia, to try and keep the movie going even though the company had told them filming was to be cancelled. Ironically he was the first killed as he steps on an old landmine.
For this movie being a comedy I didn't think it was very funny. There were laughs here and there but it just wasn't funny enough. Jack Black was the funniest in the movie, but I found him hard to watch as he was actually quite serious.
Quite a few of the scenes looked fake ie: Tugg Speedman's hands were frayed from an explosion, but he was sitting there still with no emotion on his face.
Tom Cruise was well desguised and played his part really well. I actually needed to see the credits to confirm it was actually him.
I thought the music was a great selection for the era it was depicting.
