The Conjuring product reviews

Before there was Amityville, there was Harrisville. "The Conjuring" tells the true story of Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga), world renowned paranormal investigators, who were called to help a family terrorized by a dark presence in a secluded farmhouse. Forced to confront a powerful demonic entity, the Warrens find themselves caught in the most horrifying case of their lives

It is amazing how much I have changed since having children. I used to watch all the horrors and not even flutter an eyelid at them. When I was younger I wanted to make movies, horrors especially and my expertise was going to be blood and guts - man have I changed because this movie scared the bejesus out of me.

I am not sure if its because young kids are involved and it centres around a young family or if its the unknown world but my heart raced at times and I even jumped once, which really is so unlike me. A family moves into a new house and weird things start happening. A couple who expertise in the field of the supernatural (The Warrens) come to investigate and find that the house is possessed and determine that a very evil demon has attached itself to the family.

It has its slow parts and takes a while to really get going but as a whole this movie was really well done. The 'exorcism' sent chills down my spine and when she got thrown around I even squealed. I just don't know why the kids didn't say anything earlier to there parents or even when the mother had her couple of close calls. The first signs that something was amiss is when the dog was too scared to come into the house and then they find it dead the next morning, alarm bells surely should of started going off. It actually makes me wary of moving into an old house.

It says that it is based on a true story and in doing research into it, most is factual but of course some liberties have been taken. The starting with Annabelle did actually occur although the doll was a little different, but the fact she left notes all over the apartment apparently occurred. At the recommendation of the Warrens, an exorcism of the apartment was performed, and at the owners request, the Warrens took the Annabelle doll into their possession where it still remains today. Scary stuff.

As for the Perron family they lived in that particular house for 10 years and they are all standing by the claims the place was haunted. The Warrens do have a special room where possessed stuff is kept - why would you keep that stuff?? (I don't know.) As for this movie to me it was terrifying but that is because I am a scared mummy :) still a very entertaining movie.

My wife and I finally had a night out, and so we figured that a movie would be a nice treat. After looking at what was on we finally agreed upon The Conjuring, even though she really didn't want to go, we did.

You start off with a creepy doll that is possessed doll and we are introduced to the Warrens, who rid the haunted trio of their mega creepy doll. We are told that this movie is based upon true events, but I always take that with a huge grain of salt as I can't really seeing all this happen and not getting a big notice or happening more often, but put aside the believability issues and this isn't too bad of a horror movie.

There's the typical family with young, innocent children, who move into an isolated home, spooky things begin to happen, the father isn't there often, a family member is unwell and ignores it and then everything culminates into one heck of a possession and a hard job for the Warrens. The special effects are well done and looked real enough to pass the test, the acting was good and you could believe in their fear.

I really enjoyed this and had to get it on DVD for my collection.

Back in the 1970's a family moved into a wonderful family home, not long after their arrival things start to happen, sinister things and so they call upon Ed and Lorraine Warren to help with getting rid of the paranormal activity, or so the movie says.

The Conjuring is based upon a true story, of course, Google it and you'll find that it really is just based upon and very little of it can be called true. I went to this at the theatre solely for my husband, one horror in return for the 'chick flicks' we'd gone to. I can handle a horror film at home, but boxed in in the dark at the cinema... I hate it. The fright factor is definitely there, members of the audience were gasping etc.

Whilst there was nothing I didn't expect it still made me jump a few times and the last time I squeezed my husbands hand that hard was during the birth of my last child. A couple of great clichà ©s that had the whole audience laughing halfway through the film were great.

The special effects were top notch and in a couple of cases pretty nasty (in a good way that is). I did feel at the start that some of the music simply didn't go well with what was on screen but it got better as the film progressed.

To me this was a film no different to any other haunted house/possession movie and to me delivered nothing special. I have read that there may be a sequel in the works but I can't say I'm thrilled nor excited about that, it would be a watch on DVD film this time.
