Jesters - The Jaffle Pie Co. product reviews

Jesters Franchising NZ Ltd is a wholly owned and managed New Zealand gourmet pie company. Our commitment to quality, health, taste and freshness led to the development of a unique way of cooking our pies, the result being the Jaffle Pie.

Jesters Jaffle Pies are not oven baked like the traditional pie, but cooked in our unique Jaffle Pie makers using ultra-thin light puff pastry and the finest quality natural ingredients. Jesters Jaffle Pies are cooked continuously throughout the day, guaranteeing our customers supreme freshness and taste.

The fillings in Jesters Jaffle Pies contain only low fat, lean meats and fresh garden vegetables. You'll find the chunky beef and chicken used in Jesters Jaffle Pies is visually fat free, having been carefully diced from prime quality meats. We use no preservatives, artificial flavourings, colourings or MSG.

The Jesters commitment to you: We are confident we can provide our customers with the healthiest, finest quality pies available in the marketplace.

You can work your way through over 15 varieties from the all New Zealand 'Kiwi Classic' and spicy 'Taj Mahal' to the veggie lover's 'Popeye' or the deliciously sweet 'Kentucky Delight'

I am a kiwi and we love our pies so when Jesters opened up a store next door to our local supermarket, we tried them out and have been a regular ever since. The pies are freshly made with a light thin flakey pastry and filled with quality lean meats and vegetables and gravy, no preservatives or any thing artificial just wholesome goodness just like if they were homemade. A Healthier version of a standard pie.
My favorites are:
- Marharaja :Butter chicken
- Chick-a-Licious:Chicken vegetables gravy
- Stockmans: Steak and gravy
Jesters have 16 pies on their menu including fruit and custard, and a range of mini party pies, sausage rolls and potato skin chips. Priced from $3.90 to $4.60 they get a Thumbs Up Thumbs Up from me.

BRANCH: SkyCity Complex, Queen Street, Auckland STORE NOW CLOSED DOWN
For sure this is a high-brow area of Auckland and the prices in the city arent the cheapest but the prices here were scary for what was placed in front of me. Imagine 2 small pie bottoms pressed edge to edge in the manner of a paper plate flying saucer, half full of chewy steak, sweet gravy, and something that I suppose was something waved past a strong cheese for flavouring. Cooked in some sort of modified toasted sandwich maker, the pie was a bit greasy and not very satisfying. I ordered a combo of a pie and one of their pre-made boxed salads, which was actually the highlight of the meal, which is kinda sad when you consider they are bought in ready-made from a third-party supplier, and so have nothing much to do with the pie shop at all. The staff member spoke good-but-broken English and didn't seem to know much about the pies, placing 2 of them in front of me when I order just one, and tried 3 times to convince me I had to go along with his order before finally backing off in the face of my smiling blunt refusal to go along with his attempt at selling off an extra pie before they were due to be cycled out to the bin. I really wasnt all that impressed with either the food or the store but I guess if you like the 'snob' value of spending a lot of money on nothing you will fit right in sitting outside this place.

I have not had a Jesters pie for quite a number of years and now I remember why. I cant stand them!!!

I went to Jesters in Pukekohe and bought a new special they have which is a mince or mince & cheese pie with a bottle of L&P. This was only done due to them having a competition in connection with it.

I had the mince & cheese pie, The best things about it were, it was hot and the pastry flakey. After that it was all down hill. They mince itself had no taste at all, the cheese was that horrible plastic stuff that leaves a revolting bitter taste in your mouth. I felt sick for the rest of the day because of this and the drink wasnt even cold.

The girl that served me was so slow, it would have been quicker for me to go around and do it myself. it was verging on lunchtime and as well as myself, there was my friend and the boy she looks after, plus two others, she never asked for help nor was she offered it. In fact it was so quiet out the back I think she was the only one there. I will defiantly not be going back there or to any other Jesters ever.

news update!!!
For a limited time Jesters are giving away small sample containers of mashed potato and gravy and a folding fork, , with pie purchases and want to know what we think of it.
so we tried them and the potato was a lumpy texture and appeared to be unsalted, the gravy was equally bland,
and needed salt and pepper.might suit a toddler eating it ,but not a adult that likes seasoning and some flavor.so sorry you got a thumbs down on this new product.

Thanks for your viewpoint Roberto. We have a firm policy against discrimination of any kind, including ethnic or racial, and having re-read the review very carefully, we can find no accusations based on racial profiling. Stating that someone speaks "...broken English..." is in no way a racial insult.
Your comment is valued, but somewhat unwarranted. The fact that the store won a franchise award in no way counters the evidence of this reviewers visit, since there was no claim that the franchisee was the staff member in question, nor that the store overall was substandard... just the staff person on duty this one visit.
Again, thanks for your effort and comment, we welcome all viewpoints equally.
ps. Since this review was written, over 40,000 peaople have read it... and so far, only 2 comments countering it... what does that say to you?

This review is a joke. The man who runs this shop won Franchisee of the Year in the 2005 Franchise Awards: http://www.franchise.co.nz/article/view/225#shiraz.
If you want to be taken seriously then I suggest that next time you create an objective review, one which does not so clearly reek of racial bias.

Thanks for your comment Ben... However I can assure you that the reviewer was in no way predisposed to an anti-Jesters stance, and has no other angenda regarding this listing.
I can confirm this as I was there at the time, though I chose to eat at a different food stall so was unable to review the Jesters pies.
I was shown the contents of the pie in question, and though I can't say I saw gristle (and in fact, neither did the reviewer, if you read carefully), I did notice a lot more gravy than meat, and not a jot of cheese.
The staff member in question was rather hard to understand, and I think played on this in his repeated and persistent attempts to sell the reviewer an extra, unwanted pie.
Though you have had some great experiences there, I can vouch for the authenticity of the review as written by Ooblar.
Please, do feel free to sign on to the site (it is free, after all) and post a scored review of your own. We welcome all points of view equally.

To be honest, I do feel this insight to Jesters to be a little harsh. I am a regular Jesters customer and have NEVER had any gristle in any pie I have eaten - and I have been eating them for over 2 years now..........perhaps the person writing the review is anti-Jesters or has their own agenda.

Jesters pies are definaltely not the cheapest, but I buy them as they are more filling than pastry and to be honest, I do like to eat meat not pastry - but everyone to their own.
