The Lonely Little Tree product reviews

Proud to promote NZ products"Whatever will become of me?"
sighed the sad and lonely little tree.

A single tree is left standing alone looking out to sea on a cliff edge where a forest once grew. Native birds gather, promising to cheer her up - they will make her their Christmas tree! With decorations of clematis blossoms, a spider's silvery threads, feathers, berries and shells, the tree stands glowing, a beautiful sight on a Christmas night.

Terri Rose Baynton's whimsical watercolour illustrations capture the magic of this natural landscape.

This is a story about a tree, a lone tree, left behind after all his fellow trees in the forest had been felled by forestry.Oh what a lonely tree he was until his forest friends the many native birds of New Zealand found their own unique ways to make him their Christmas tree. With ruru's big bright eyes lighting up the tree at night and flowers adorning the branches they turn the lonely little tree into the most beautiful truly New Zealand tree.

This book celebrates a New Zealand Christmas with the decorations of shells, pohutukawa blooms, and native birds the soft whimsical style of water painting brings the joy of a New Zealand Christmas to life. The gentle rhyming story appeals to children and makes an enjoyable read aloud story with parents. My children happily gathered around for a snuggle while I read the book to them arguing over who was getting a better view of the clever illustrations.

Christmas stirs up a lot of excitement and sharing Christmas books is a special tradition for our family and this book makes the perfect heart warming read that shows how everyone comes around to help make Christmas special, being a time to spend with our loved ones helping one another out and being there for each other. A tale much more important than the traditional present giving theme of Christmas stories this one gives children another look at the special parts of Christmas time like decorating the tree and thinking about other people.

We loved this story and will treasure it for many Christmases to come one I would highly recommend to other parents as a great Christmas idea. My son really thought hard about the lonely tree and with themes of forestry mentioned upon it can also be away to invoke those thoughts around the effect forestry has and why one tree could be left on its own.

I read this book The Lonely Little Tree to my 6 month old baby who appeared to really enjoy it and was giggling away and looking at the pictures on the pages. I got a bit tongue twisted reading the book I do not know if it is just me or if others may have as well. I found words similar and trying the read the sentence I got twisted up in the words. I love the illustrations and the pictures were lovely and colourful and eye catching. I love how it adds a lot of New Zealand culture to the book and the use of New Zealand birds.

The story line is great and I like how the birds dress up the tree to make the tree fell better. A pretty Christmas tree standing on its own with the birds perched on the tree. A nice story about not leaving anyone out at Christmas time is what I got from it.

I read it with my ten year old who really enjoyed it and thought the tree looked really good at the end, and he loved the pictures and the use of New Zealand birds. He wanted to take the book to school to share with his teacher which he did and the teacher read it out to the class, my son came home and said they all enjoyed it. He said the school library would be keen to get it in. My son also read the book with his cousin who also enjoyed it. A well written New Zealand book, would make a good Christmas gift.

Product reviews for listing 3001: Surface Detail
Written by Iain M. Banks

Product image for Surface DetailIt begins in the realm of the Real, where matter still matters.

It begins with a murder.

And it will not end until the Culture has gone to war with death itself.

It started in the Real and that is where it will end. It will touch countless lives and affect entire civilizations, but at the centre of it all is a young woman whose need for revenge masks another motive altogether.
