Passionfruit Mint Tic-Tacs product reviews

Described as 'a must have for all occassions', Tic Tacs have been freshening mouths since 1969 when the tiny mint was first release in the U.S.

In the 35+ years since it has grown to be one of the most popular mints in the world featuring in TV shows and movies such as 'Will and Grace', 'The Sopranos', 'The Simpsons', 'Dumb and Dumber', 'Home Alone' and even 'Shrek'.

I have loved TicTacs since my first packet of Orange TicTacs. And ever the consumer foodie adventurer, I do pride myself on trying new and intriguing food products. So I was completely up for trying Passionfruit Mint TicTacs.

Previously TicTac had bought out Lemon Mint and I had tried that, so had a fair idea of what I was getting into. I placed a Passionfruit Mint in my mouth. The immediate hit of passionfruit flavour came through. I sucked a little bit, and then the cooling refreshing aftertaste of mint hit me as well. Then the next few moments were a crazy wild trip of having two completely different flavours vying for the attention of my taste buds.

Was it delicious? Not amazingly delicious, no. Was it disgusting? No, it was quite palatable. Would I do it again, maybe not. I think I'm still in love with traditional Orange TicTac. But it was an interesting ride that's for sure!

Hmmm... Passionfruit...

Oooo... Mint....

Passionfruit/mint/passionfruit/mint....

It's strange... but not in a bad way!
I actually rather enjoyed this new taste sensation after the initial shock and the general consensus amongst my friends was that it was wierd, but a good wierd!

"Wow....... that's different" I thought as I tried my first one. A very distinct passionfruit taste when you eat one, but when that wears off you get a very wierd minty tang, not unpleasant though. Must say I do like 'em and any lover of passionfriut should too.

Well the new Tic Tac flavour initially took me by suprise. My reaction was simply "Why would you do this?" The intial passionfruit burst was delicious and then you're hit with the mint! BANG, it was not a good experience. To be perfectly honest I was expecting the same tasty flavour you find in the orange flavour (which I love) but alas this was not it!!!

So what do you do when you have a whole box of passionfruit tic tacs left and you disliked the first one! Well if you're like me you keep on eating them. Before I knew it the strangest thing happened. I slowly began to like the peculiar taste.

So where do I stand now?? I LIKE THEM, I think that the pasionfruit burst is like a treat and then the Tic Tac does what it does best, gives you a refreshing burst of mint. I actually feel like I have just brushed my teeth after each one. So dont give up on them after your first one, and dont expect them to taste like the orange flavour. Take them for what they are, a new flavour of Tic Tac, and you may find yourself liking them, like me!!

I have always enjoyed Tic Tacs for their fresh minty taste, and I was overjoyed when I discovered the ornage flavoured ones (too) many years ago. Seeing all the innovative flavours popping up in the USA, I have been waiting for some innovation to trickle through to New Zealand. When I had the opportunity to try these ones, I was dead keen.

Pop the pack, pop a couple into my hand, then pop them into my mouth. YUM! A sudden burst of passionfruit flavour hit me. However, that was it, the highlight, the be-all and end-all, the alpha and the omega. Less than 2 seconds later my mouth was flooded with the most obnoxious, wierd flavour I have ever come across. The tail-end of the passionfruit sweetness mixing with the onset of the mint scorch was simply too much for my tastebuds to process, so it just rejected the sensation as 'too far-out for me, matey' and triggered the gag reflex.

After much drinking of Lift+ to erase the flavour, I was restored enough to contemplate "What am I going to do with the other 23 boxes of these things?" Simple really, with appropriate warning against the 'wierd taste sensations about to befall your tongue' I gave them away to other reviewers and friends.

Overall, for me, these are the worst thing to hit the Tic Tac brand ever. To Ferrero (Aust), why not import the Orange and/or Citrus Twist varieties? Why not the Cinnamon even? But PLEASE, don't mix sweet and scorch again, it's just not on. Follow the Orange Tic Tac lead, and stick to major flavourscapes only. This experimental stuff just isn't your best work.
