The curse has resurfaced . . . As fifteen-year-old Nicola takes to the water, her parents begin to discover that the truth they tried to drown is coming back to haunt them. And when girls start dying, it's only a matter of time before they will all be dragged back under . . .
When I read "The Drowning" by Rachel Ward I never thought I would read another book quite as haunting as it again. Well Rachel Ward proved me wrong with this stunning sequel to the breathtaking first book. I remember reading the first book and feeling scared whenever I heard my dripping tap in the kitchen. You just have to read them to find outwhy but they definitely make you want to stay away from water for a very long time!!
Although this book is a sequel set after the events of the Drowning you could easily read it alone and not need to have read the first book although I am glad that I ahd read The Drowning as it gives you more of a thrill knowing the curse is backand bigger than before. Plus you can make connections with the first book that other readers would not know about it. Having read the first book everything clicks into place as you are reading.
Rachel Wards writing is quite spectacular she sets a scene and builds on it beautifully. The tension and the suspenseseem to come naturally to her as she writes a book that makes you want to keep reading not knowing when a good moment toput the book down might come. I liked this book just as much as I liked the first one if not a little better! I am still feeling a little haunted tonight as I put the book down and I may just need to turn the fan on and the water off!!
While the drowning was quite dark with lots of rain this one was set in a very hot summer so there are vast
differences between the two book but still some stunning similaraties. Nic is a competitive swimmer who loves beingin the water, but she does wonder why her dad is so obsessed with drownings in the area and finds a locket in his possession.Nic puts the locket on and begins to see a dead boy in the water. It is soon discovered that the locket is linked to the drownings in the area.
As her parents realise that the secret they had tried to keep buried was back but is it too late to stop the curse once and for all or are they all going to succumb to the water! A truly spooky story that will keep you on the edge of the seat and leave your mouth feeling very dry! A book you can fully get lost in.
