The Pet Hotel is up and running. Meg and Charlie have lots of different pets to watch: dogs, cats, bunnies, birds, guinea pigs and more. But when a retired police beagle named Watson comes to stay, he sniffs out all sorts of trouble.

I had never heard about the Pet Hotel series before. Seeing it up for review I could not resist - a hotel for animals, how cool is that? My original plan was for my five year old to read it. She has just started school this year and loves to read, but when she saw how many words were on the page it kind of freaked her out so instead we had this for our nightly read that I read to both her and her sister. The chapters are between 6 - 8 pages long so works out perfect for our nightly book.

The twins are awoken by a sound and on investigation find that it was the hamsters wheels making the noise. They then see something in the shadows and no one is quite sure what it is. As luck would happen the next day they come across a police lady that they knew who had just adopted an old police dog whose nose could find anything and they get to dog-sit it.

For this age group the story is beautifully written, describing the scenes perfectly. It has black and white pictures on most pages which kept the magic going. At the front of the book there is a diagram of the house explaining what each room is used for. We thought it was rather funny that the Rabbits room is up the top and both girls were curious if the rabbits should escape and get onto the roof would they jump off and survive. There appears to be trees up there so just said no I think they would just eat the leaves instead. We also like how there is a fish at the bottom - reminds us of the book The Fish Who Grew.

I think it was a lovely book and both girls seem to enjoy. There is talk now that our next house should be a pet hotel which to be honest I would not mind.

The Pet Hotel series of books are currently my 7 yr old daughters favourite chapter books. What is not to love about a hotel specifically for pets? especially when it comes to little girls who love all things cute, cuddly, snuggly, and fun. So of course we were excited to receive book number 3 in the series - a nose for trouble.

The Pet Hotel series are fantastic books that are nicely set out with colour covers that appeal to children, the pictures inside are simple black and white drawings that match the storyline without taking the attention away from having to read. They are nice easy to read stories as well, great for confident readers and those who are just moving on to chapter books and reading alone.

Miss 7 and I always read together every night. It is our favourite part of the day. We take turns reading aloud. We are sposed to read 1 or 2 chapters a night but sometimes we get a book that we just can not put down. A nose for trouble was one of those books, we couldn not put it down. Right from chapter 1 we were captured, with investigating funny noises somewhere in the pet hotel. Then in chapter 2 we are introduced to a mystery that must be solved! what mystery I hear you ask? well you will have to buy the book to find out. Thry are priced at 8-10 dollars and worth every cent :)
