I first saw a similar product to Fluff during my holiday to America and was most interested in it as a lot of recipes in the States seemed to contain fluff, unfortunately for me however I forgot to purchase some to bring back to New Zealand with me. While browsing the isles at The Warehouse one day I spotted some in the American food area, and so decided to grab some, I ended up with 2 jars one of vanilla and one of strawberry.
So naturally when I got home the first thing I did was open up the vanilla Fluff and dug in my spoon and had a taste, I was surprised with how much it did actually resemble that of vanilla marshmallows it was really good. I started searching the internet for ideas of things to make and bake using the fluff and the ideas were plentiful there certainly wasn't a shortage of them. The first thing I did was made LCM like bars using butter, fluff and rice bubbles, these turned out really yummy quite like the real thing. It was also really yummy on toast and both the vanilla and strawberry were tried this way. It is a great cupcake topping and also fantastic sandwiched between 2 biscuits, really there is so much you can do with such a little jar it certainly is a great product.
The strawberry would have to be my favourite of the 2 and I would definitely buy as a special occasion treat again although I haven't seen it around for a while, I wonder if it was more of a limited American food that The Warehouse happened to get a shipment of around the time I purchased it?
Wow, this spread surely is a waker-upper! I had never before thought that there could ever be such a things as a marshmallow spread, yet here it is! When I first got it I went through about a quarter of each jar, by eating it plain, and they both actually taste quite good on their own.
When I was told that I would have to get creative with these, I didn't know what to do, but then I came up with a few ideas, and they all seemed to turn out good, just some not as good as I would have hoped for. My first idea was to make some Oreo-like cookies, with some fluff as the filling. I tried that idea, but the filling was too liquid after I added some water to make it less sticky, but the end result was still delicious!
The leftover fillings seemed to make an awesome topping for desserts, I put it on some ice cream and fruit salad. My final idea was to make a milkshake out of the stuff, so I got some vanilla ice cream, milk, and some plain fluff and mixed it together into a refreshing cold drink, with some chocolate and raspberry flavacols mixed in as well. I found the name quite unusual, holding a jar of this out to someone and saying "Here's a jar of fluff!" just makes me think of the dust-bunnies you find under a desk, that's just weird.
Just by looking at the works of other reviewers who have gotten creative with this stuff shows me that this isn't just for spreading on toast, it has more uses than that, it's like the Swiss Army Knife of spreads if you know what I mean. I think that this is a spread you should have in your pantry, as is is one of the best spreads I've ever had! It even has a great price, just a jar of the stuff can be used to make a large pile of goodies for yourself or your family. I hope you enjoy this stuff, as it is pretty hard for me not to love!
I was given the opportunity to try this Marshmallow Fluff in Strawberry flavour as well as Vanilla. For the price, I thought it was a good volume per jar. This fluff is supposed to represent approximately 32 marshmallows which would be about two bags worth. I'm not sure which flavour is my favourite. I loved both fairly equally, though the vanilla would be more versatile for general use.
I made a number of things with the strawberry flavoured fluff. Firstly, using flaky puff pastry, I made little rectangle parcels of fluff and banana slices. I baked these and served them ice cream. These were delicious. I then made a number of different drinks. I tried a iced chocolate smoothie, with the fluff, chocolate powder, milk and ice cream. I served this up to the family. Everyone enjoyed this, though it was a bit too sweet for Miss 6.
Miss 6 did request some sandwiches with this strawberry fluff in them as well. So I made her chocolate fish flavoured sandwiches one day. It had chocolate spread and fluff. Then I cut them into dolphin shapes. They went down a treat. I also made a fruit fluff smoothie last night, but this was definitely too sweet. It was simply the strawberry fluff with orange juice. I think a heaped spoon of yoghurt or two would have helped cut the sweetness back.
With the vanilla, I made a fluffernutter smoothie of peanut butter, fluff and milk. That one was delicious and I could have drank that one every day. Today, I decided I deserved a hearty lunch, so I made a sweet potato creation, of baked kumara, pineapple, cinnamon, butter and fluff. I then topped it with almonds I had chopped up. This was an interesting mix, but pretty good. Reminded me of all those American cook shows I watch in the lead up to Christmas and their Thanksgiving.
I think the true test of a cool product though, is your inability to resist the jar. And these jars are all but empty due to the ease of which a spoon fits in and how easy it to eat straight!
Marshmellow Fluff is exactly what you think it is and incredibly sticky. With two flavours, vanilla and strawberry, there was something for hubby and something for me.
If you took marshmallows and melted them down this is what you would have. Trying to think about what to use these for I took the first, easy suggestion that I could see and put some on my toast. Due to how sticky it is, it wasn't that easy, but we got there in the end. Now, on toast... never again it was fowl and nearly put me off the stuff.
I found on-line a very easy, very basic biscuit recipe. Mix peanut butter, egg and sugar together, bake and there you have it. I then spread some of the strawberry fluff onto one biscuit, sticking another one on top, using the spread as my 'glue'. These tasted really good and I didn't need much spread to make this a great treat.
Next up I made some Jam Drop biscuits substituting the jam for strawberry fluff. The only problem with these was that because it was so sticky, they keep sticking to each other and breaking apart when you grab one out of the container, but the kids don't care.
For the plain fluff I decided to make a milk drink with just milk, chocolate nesquik (instant coffee for the adults) and fluff. Popped it all in the blender and served. My five year old and four year old declared it as yummy as milo and were pleased when I put the remaining milk on their breakfast this morning.
How sticky this is is very off-putting for me, however, it makes a nice treat for the kids so I might buy it in the future if on special.
Over the years I have come across many a recipe using Marshmellow Fluff put had never tried it until I was given a jar of white and a jar of strawberry to review. The first thing I did when the fluff was offered up for review was go onto the website www.marshmallowfluff.com/pages/recipe_favorites.html and browse the numerous ideas for using it. The jars also had several suggestions on them too.
To open the jar I had to peel off the foil seal. There was some fluff stuck to it so, of course, I just had to try it as did Miss 3.5 and Miss 5. It was just like a melted marshmallow and very popular with all three of us. As an after dinner treat I made the girls a flutternutter sandwich. This is a peanut butter and fluff sandwich. One girl chose to have it made with strawberry fluff and the other with white fluff but both were eaten to a chorus "Yum, Yummy, thank you Mummy."
I chose to use the rest of the strawberry fluff to make marshmallow treats. This was a recipe I found on the website and thought this would be great for the lunchboxes. These are essentially homemade LCM bars and the recipe worked out to me much more economical than purchasing the pre-made ones. There was also the added bonus of being able to adapt it to suit out tastes. I drizzled melted chocolate over the top. This were a hit with the kids.
With the jar of white fluff I made another recipe from the website, peanut butter fudge. This was very easy to make, although I didn't cook mine long enough to set. It tasted simply divine. I found like with most fudge a little is better than a lot. We have enjoyed having a couple of pieces each night.
There are so many things I still want to make with the fluff as well as my girls requesting flutternutters frequently. This is such a versatile product I will be buying more. With everything we have tried so far my favourite it licking the empty jar clean.
Fluff. Is there anything it can't do? I absolutely love the American style Cool Whip, how they come up with the idea of a light and "fluffy" but not too sweet ingredient that can be used in cooking or even right off the spoon amazes me. Fluff comes in two varieties. Strawberry and plain marshmallow. It is sold as a marshmallow spread, but its uses are varied.
I have the 213g containers. 213g equals 7.5oz (its American sizes) and I can let you know right now both containers are over half empty
You can use this in baking such as pie filling or cupcake frosting because when the spread is undisturbed it is smooth surfaced, when you hit it with a spoon it draws apart looking very light, aerated and highly whipped. I chose to use the marshmallow flavour in my cappuccino. I find that the Nestle Cappuccinos are always a bit strong for my liking and so I got out my trusty piping bag and spooned a few tablespoons in. I piped a star shape in a slow circle like a Mr. Whippy ice cream, and then topped with chocolate hail.
It tasted amazing and was not too sweet as the balance of the cappuccino with the Fluff worked together very well. When it hits the hot drink it does start to melt to I had to pipe it on quite thick so that it floated. When Fluff is heated it goes very thin and almost melts so if you have it on toast (like I did with the strawberry flavour) it just ends up being like a spread. It loses its fluffy texture.
The strawberry Fluff I ate right off the spoon. Ha-ha and I also used it to make Strawberry Oreo cookies taste like they should out of the box. (Never enough cream in that sandwich layer.) The strong chocolate taste of the small cookies were a perfect match for the strawberry Fluff. You could also use the marshmallow flavour and improve the plain Oreo's but I was happy with my marshmallow cappuccino and my strawberry Oreo's.
I would definitely recommend you try these as they are great for fruit dips, to cook with or just eat straight out of the jar.
I rate Fluff 10 out of 10, I could not improve on these except maybe the introduction of a banana flavoured Fluff. That would be awesome. (Hmm thinking of creations with pineapple lumps now).
This is in my "very different" box, fluffy as a spread so pretty much marshmallows on sandwiches melted. Not something I would normally give my kids on sandwiches to start with. This is Gluten Free which is great for my daughter who can only eat Gluten Free products. I have tasted it and it really does taste like strawberry or vanilla marshmallows. My son enjoyed eating it off the spoon, but I found another way to work with it.
I thought I would try these out as frosting for cupcakes doing my own one, mixing the pink fluff with icing sugar and a little water and pipping onto the cupcakes after a while it dried with a hard shell on top. The white fluff I used with butter, icing sugar and water and it didn't dry with a shell it stays soft and sticky which my kids liked. Another lot of cupcakes I put batter into the paper put fluff pink or white on and then batter on top of that.
Once taking the cupcakes out of the oven I found the fluff actually made its way to the top of the cupcake and baked at the top giving it a Smores look and a gooey marshmallow top, which tasted just like melting marshmallows over the fire and putting between biscuits. The fluff is very different and interesting as much as my kids loved it, I don't think I will actually buy it again unless its a birthday and I need it for cupcakes.
