Verkerks Traditional Aged Salami is made according to the processes Aalt learnt in Holland in the 1940s. Natural fermentation and further aging provide a distinctive rich flavour. Available in Chorizo & Venison, Red Wine & Chilli.
I found this range of salami recently when looking for toppings for our home made pizza and really enjoyed the Chorizo packet as a nice topping for our pizza. It seems a lot drier than normal salami but I guess that is because it is aged it would be drier. The taste is really nice it has a subtle hint of spice but not as hot as pepperoni so it is nice on the pizza as it doesnt overpower the pizza with the hotness of peppercorns.
I used it on our pizza along with some Verkerks Cabanoosi sticks and some cherry tomatoes and spinach and these ingredients all worked really well together to make a gourmet tasting pizza. We had some left over after making the pizza so it was also nice as a snack with some cheese and crackers.
The pack is quite small and is quite expensive so you can get regular salami a lot cheaper at the deli but I like these packets as they last longer in the refrigerator as long as the packet is sealed as with the deli salami you have to use it within a day or two at the most.
