Tarantula BOO! product reviews

......faster than whispering "Alcazoo,"
Lenny sprang out
Tarantula BOO!

Lenny the tarantula is kind of hairy and kind of scary, and his favourite game to play at the zoo is something he calls TARANTULA BOO!

But while thats all jolly good fun, Lenny is also kind of lonely. So one day, he goes in search of a friend...

Tarantula Boo .... although being a creepy crawly spider he is quiet likeable by the end! My 3 year old son really enjoyed reading this as he knew when I said 'tarantula' he was to say 'BOO'. This is my favourite part of the book.

I really love how the words are placed on the pages so that it adds anticipation to the story and even dad can make cool voices while reading it!! This is another fantastic book with rhyme and alliteration. This is an adventure story and allows the young mind to question where the spider came from and where he will go, thus provoking questions about 'Lenny' along the way! (or perhaps this is just my curious Mr 3!!) The story is quite long, but its a good length for a child that can take in details and to read in bed.

From a parents point of view i enjoyed it, but mr 3 has only picked it himself a couple of times (a few more provoked by me asking if we should read it!)

Tarantula BOO! is a rhyming book. It has quite a bit of text in it compared to the age group that the illustrations are aimed at I think. Miss Three and Miss Four didn't like the illustrations and I think the illustrations diminished the book. With different illustrations I think we would have been more taken with this book.

I did like the rhyming though it was a little reminiscent of Lynley Dodds' books.

"Safe behind glass at Zurlington Zoo, lived loveable larrikin Lenny Lassoo."
The story is of Lenny's exploration through the zoo seeking a friend. Whilst the rhyming was good it was a bit tongue twistery which once again would have been fine if the illustrations were aimed at an older age group.

I found that this book seemed to drag on and I found myself skipping bits to get to the end each time I read it (it has 32 pages) . Even by skipping text however I was unable to hold the attention of Miss Three and Miss Four.

I think unfortunately because of my dislike of the illustrations this book won't be making a very regular appearance at story time in our house.

Product image for The Rain Wild Chronicles #1 - The Dragon KeeperGuided by the dragon Tintaglia, they came from the sea: a Tangle of serpents fighting their way up the Rain Wild River, the first to make the perilous journey in generations.

For Thymara, a Rainwilder born with scales and claws, the return of dragons symbolises the return of hope to her war-torn world. Leftrin, captain of the liveship Tarman, also has an interest in the hatching; as does Bingtown newlywed, Alise Finbok, who ... more...
