miQube product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsLooks like a puzzle, plays like a boardgame! The miQube Boardgame & Puzzle is the award winning three dimensional mind challenge, comprising of four strategic boardgames and a deceptively simple looking puzzle.

    •  Develops mathematical concepts and spatial reasoning skills
    •  Perfect for all ages and stages - 7 years to adult, 1-4 people
    •  Durable wooden design - will last a lifetime
    •  Unplug your kids from their computer games now!

miQube Domination
Master this game and you are ready to take on the others. Dominate the board with your selected colour, while second guessing your opponent's every move.

miQube Advance
Link each of your placements as you 'advance' across the board, fighting to capture both position and territory as you go. The ultimate game of strategy, foresight and cunning.

miQube Gridblock
Using only one game colour, players need to think several steps ahead to prevent their opponent from making a move. Victory goes to the 'last man standing'.

miQube Connect Five
A new spin on an old favourite. Head-to-head competition, requiring the ability to think strategically on three levels - not for the fainthearted!

miQube Puzzle
Assemble the 13 unique pieces into a perfect six-sided cube. Sounds simple, but the catch is that every side needs to be the same colour and there is only one solution!

Made from natural timber, this is a sturdy little puzzle and one that will bend more than one noodle. To add a cherry on top, it can be played as not one, but *4* games too!

Personally, I have always been fond of the cube puzzles in their near-infinite variety. From the dinky foam ones where you assembles the six panels to form a hollow cube, to the monster ones you see on "Survivor" so very often, they are all appealing to my brain. Having a spatially-oriented mindset, they grasp something in me that just adores working through a 3d puzzle and assembling it within the time limit. For me, the challenge isn't how to do it, but how to do it FASTER!

From that aspect alone, this was a winner with me... but to then experience it as a 2-player game made it just so much better value for money in my mind. The various games are similar enough that you can grasp them as you move from one to another, yet different enough that each will reveal it's own unique twists to keep you on your toes. Probably my favourite would have been the "Connect Five" game, as it reminded me of the classic "tic-tac-toe" or "Connect 4" games, but in 3d - FAR more challenging to keep track of, and also much harder to block an opponent who has prepared well.

Overall, I think this was a real winner... not my total favourite from the range, but certainly right up there fighting it out for a shot at the top spot. The best bit about this though - WOOD! Strong, durable, renewable, and something that can be handed on to the kids without worrying about little bit breaking off and getting swallowed. NOT a teething toy though - too good for that!
