Big Sister, Little Sister product reviews

This book provides a charming appreciation of the special bond between sisters. The Big one gets new clothes. The Little one gets hand-me-downs. The Big one does everything first.

The Little one is always catching up. But the little one can do some things well, and can even teach the older one a thing or two...

Big sisters and little sisters alike will agree: this is a sassy and touching celebration of sisterhood for all ages.

Sturdily bound, this twenty-six page picture book is a delightful production, in which the little sister explains how life works out between big or little sisters.
The pages are a mix of multi-illustrated pages, and illustrations that fill a two-page spread. Each illustration is a delightful expression of the two sisters' feelings.

The text is sparse - a sentence, two at the most, per page - making it an easy book for a read-aloud, or a kindy or early school age child to attempt to read alone. The sentence and story structure sets a pattern that permits an early reader to focus on the unfamiliar vocabulary and work it out.

I chose this to borrow it to review, as I wanted to take a look at current children's books, and this appealed because of the cover design. I was right - it's a great children's book. I wish I could give my elder sister a copy - she had two little sisters to grow up with, and would appreciate the nuances of many of the situations described and pictured.

Price-wise, at $30.00 (Scholastic books) I can only compare against Amazon: $10.87 (Amazon New), $6.99 (Resell New), $4.75 (Resell Used)
Add us$4.00 for shipping and packing, and the International Exchange rate on the dollar, and it may come in at nz$22.00, or less if one bought a used acceptable quality edition. The local price is not what I would put in a low-to-medium price range for a child's picture book. But I wish I could buy a copy!

What a delightful and lovely book. Miss 4 loves the 'big sister little sister' book, making me read it immediately upon unpacking, she then took it with her to kindy... where it was a very well received book by the children.

The easy to read, large type and cute pictures make it entertaining for children and adults alike. And as a big sister myself, it is so true Smile Icon The big sister really does get to stay up later, and get the new clothing, while the little sister does have to go to bed earlier and generally gets the big sisters hand me downs. The truth in the story made me smile, as I'm sure it will make many big sisters alike also smile.

Its a lovely story, full of truth and love, which is absolutely wonderful for toddlers, but just as wonderful for any sisters out there.

This book was very easy to read had nice big words made it very easy for my nearly four year old to read along with me, by allowing her to sound out the words after I had said them.

She loved how the book seemed to relate to her and her sister's relationship as she is the little sister in the family.

She was able to follow the story along with me by looking at the pictures as they were very clear and easy to understand as they were very simple. I found the colours in the book were very bland and do not offer very much visual stimulation.

Mine and my daughters favourite part in the book was the bit where the big sister and the little sister were good at different things but they were both good at something. This made my daughter feel special and understand we are all good at different things and can not always be good at the same things.

Overall this is a great book for families with two sisters or who are about to have a new baby girl as I feel it shows all the important facts about what it is like to be a big sister and how special little sisters can be. I only wish this kind of book was around when my girls were younger - would have made things a lot easier for me.

Product reviews for listing 3630: Wolves of the Beyond - Spirit Wolf -  Written by Kathryn Lasky

Product image for Wolves of the Beyond - Spirit WolfNo one ever saw Faolan as a leader. Banished as a pup, he survived and returned as a gnaw wolf - the lowest member of the wolf pack. But Faolan wasn't meant to be a gnaw wolf. It's not just his strange, splayed paw, or his uncanny connection with the bears. There's something about Faolan that inspires certain wolves... and leaves others deeply suspicious.

Now, with a dangerous threat on the horizon, the pack must make a choice. Will ... more...
