Cook Street Takeaways is always our first choice for Chinese meals. Be sure to get in early on a Friday or Saturday night as by the time 6pm rolls around the place is always completely packed.
This comes as no surprise when you have a look at the awards on their walls ™ 'Best Local Fish & Chip shop 1998 and 2002. And I would have to agree.
Cook Street takeaways have an extensive selection of deep fried goodies, Chinese dishes, burgers, toasted sandwiches, drinks, and they also offer a smorgasbord in the evenings.
Our family (8 adults + 2 kids) celebrated a birthday last Sunday and we decided to order several of the Chinese dishes along with some fish and chips. We have done this before from Cook Street and were very impressed. We rang through with our order and informed the person on the other line we would pick it up at 5pm. I turned up at 5pm and a big box was brought out five minutes later with our food. A free 2.25 litre drink was also thrown in for free ™ WOW!! This also happened last time we ordered a banquet meal. A welcome gesture which these days sadly is as rare as hen-s teeth.
We got home and unwrapped all our goodies.
Two scoops of chips, five fish, and trays of: chicken & cashew nuts, combination egg foo yung, sweet & sour pork, sweet & sour wontons, and lemon chicken.
I wont comment on everything, but the standouts were definitely the wontons and the lemon chicken. The wontons were HUGE ™ seriously. I have never seen wontons so big before in my life! And the lemon chicken was a huge hit ™ battered chicken fillets deep fried and coated in a lemony sauce, garnished with sliced lemon. Need I say more? Everything on a whole was extremely yummy and well made.
If you haven-t tried Cook Street Takeaways before, I suggest you do. They are great value for money.
