I love this toy (sorry I mean my sons love this toy) and the reason for this is it's so simple yet has so much to offer.
Firstly the sound effects are not bad at all and match the movements quite well most of the time. Secondly the sword itself is not too heavy, and in fact is balanced quite well. The mask while looking cool is a bit uncomfortable (this is what my sons tell me) so isn;t used quite as much. However the throwing stars and the hilt darts are a well liked addition as well as the dog tags and the belt sheath.
One thing I will say is that while the sword is nicely balanced, it does have a slight drawback, it means that the sword blade is a bit heavier and stronger than some of the other swords you can buy, and that means that it will hurt a bit more when it hits you, as one of my sons found out at the hands of the other. But aside from that niggle (which I didn't let it affect the score as I knew it would happen anyway) this is a great toy and will keep the kids quiet for a while (until one gets hit that is ).
You certainly get plenty to play with in this pack, with an electronic sword, a couple of eye-safe throwing stars, the facemask, a belt-holster, a set of plastic 'dog tags' and a couple of mini missiles that launch out of the sword's hilt. Not too bad, considering what some similarly-priced junk is available on the shelves these days.
By far the 'biggest' piece from this kit is the sword itself. It makes noises as you use it, lights up, and is (fairly) safe to swish around as though they know what they are doing. Personally I think this is a pretty good kit for kids though some would say that it's a little bit 'light' in places and somewhat reminds them of the failed experiment Iron Man mask kit that really didn't impress me enough to want to spend $55 on it. However, the extras in this kit, and the fact that even though the mask is just that, a plastic face with straps, the sword makes it worthwhile.
The hilt-launched missiles were a nice touch, one I didn't see in action on the movie at all however, which had me wondering if it was indeed an 'official' extra of if it was simply a way to add value to the toy. Either way, was pretty cool to see the 'WOW' on the kids faces when they discovered it.
All in all, though its far from being a flagship product for the GI Joe brand it is still a really cool toy set. Though because of the slight let-down of a basic no-frills facemask I would expect ytou will see this one on the discount table at your favourite toy retailer within a few months.
