Me and my partner brought an Elite Frontier Backpack for our first child although they are at the top end of the price bracket compared to their competitors and at the time of purchase i did question myself "have i made the right choice?" Four children later and many hours of use or miles walked i have no doubt in my mind we did . We live a very active and outdoor lifestyle hence our Elite Frontier Packer has had a busy time. It has been on many bush walks, it even tramped around many parts of the south island, been to many sports events, to shopping trips and even on a 4x4 motorbike guided tour (through which he slept most of the way ). I have found it so comfortable to use due to the great design and many adjustments to the straps along with ample padding to ensue comfort to the adult at all times, even after a long days hike . As for the comfort of our small ones, once again adjustments in all the right spots. All our children have loved the Elite right from day one till the time when they have had to give up their seat to their younger sibling. Other great features are the ample storage at the bottom of the Elite, where there is enough room for an entire day bag to be packed, also it has a nifty little sun shade that fits to the top to keep the burning sun away. They look so comfortable and most importantly so so safe sitting there enjoying their ride, and the are so content allowing for a great day out for all, no matter what the outing may be. In summary the ELITE FRONTIER BACKPACK is great value for money, is light but comfortable and very durable (has lasted 4 children and is still in great condition) has all the features required and is easy to adjust . If your family love the outdoors or even just always busy and out and about this would have to be one of the best purchases could do for you and your child.

I wasnt too sure about this backpack at first. It looked a lot bigger than other ones I have seen and I couldnt really see where the extra space was going to be of use. Then I really started to give it a good looking at. Sure enough, the extra space at the bottom is part of a very decent sized zip-up storage compartment that also holds the attachable sunshade when its not in use.
The straps are really thick and well padded which means it is quite comfortable to wear, but the bottom corners of the framework can dig into soft fleshy bits if you happen to have a "bit'o'butt". Maybe rounding off those two front corners would have been a better comfort option. The seat inside is adjustable in height, so you can set it to hold your bundle of joy at a safe level easily. You dont want to bury them inside, but you dont want them able to fall out if you turn a corner too quick either. Thats where the lap strap inside is a great addition too. Keep those active little beans safely in the pod.
I did find that the sunshade that comes with it has a flimsy framework though. Soft aluminium rods allow it to be adjusted easily, but also hold the dents and kinks easily, making the frame distort and awkward very quickly. Personally, I would have been happier with a steel rod frame, even if I had to pay a little extra for it. The weight factor would not have been noticeable, but the durability issue would have at least been solved. I also would have liked to have seen something a little more waterproof either as an add-on to the sunshade, or instead of. In the end, I have modified one from a small doll's pram to suit the purpose and it attaches over the front, top and sides of the sunshade with velcro. This has already proven itself worthwhile at least twice so far, as a random sunshower has casually wandered over us, soaking me, but hardly affecting my passenger.
All in all, this is a pretty good, sturdy unit. It is able to stand up on its own when the passenger is quite small, but if they tend to tow themselves around, I wouldn't recommend leaving them unattended for even a moment! Mind you, this makes a great emergency highchair if you need to stop at a foodcourt or something. It's also really easy to hose clean afterwards. Wink Icon
