Tucker   Review #3980 - Dated: 24th of September, 2010
  Author: Tucker

After having trialled the "Transformer version of this device, I knew what to expect. As before, when autoplay functionality is turned OFF by default - for security reasons to prevent malware from self-activating - this device is anyhting but 'click-free'. Still, the amount of clicking can be minimal, if you think about what needs to be done and how best to do it. But the big drawcard for this unit is it's physical size.

About the size of a credit card, and 5 cards thick (about 6mm give or take), complete with a swing-out USB plug long enough to reach into even those annoying recessed USB ports some laptops insist on having, this is a tidy, discrete device that can be slipped into a wallet, the back of a business-card holder, or even a pocket. It looks stylish in it's brushed-aluminium appearance, and seemed to be fairly solid. I put it through a few 'basic' tests, such as placing it in the back pocket of my jeans and sitting down, dropping it on the ground from shirt-pocket height, I even held it out the window in the rain for 10 minutes... it still functioned flawlessly after that, so it's fairly 'everyday-incident' proof.

Multi-machine backup is one claim you need to be careful of though... it all depends on not exceeding the total available storage capacity. At 16gb, it's all too easy to hit the limit so you may find that 'multiple machine backups' is more a case of 'selective file' backup rather than 'comprehensive' backup.Despite this, the unit is very handy in dire situations, and restoration of files is a very simple matter - easier than backing them up in the first place usually.

Overall, a very handy device that is small enough to tuck away, but big enough to hold the essentials for 2-3 systems, or a fairly-comprehensive backup of a single 'work' laptop.
