Licorice is normally such a big hit in this house. Any colour or flavour. Kids and I were all excited to open this and give it a taste. Opened bag and it smelt ok. Packaging was great with all information clearly marked on it. Was great to pick it up and seeing right on the front what it was made of. Really would stand out when telling people about it and what to look for.

I think I might go and buy a bag for my dad for his birthday and see what his take on it is, as he is a huge licorice fan and is always a staple in his gifts. I would also recommend to others who like licorice to pop out and try this product as everyone's options will be different. I'm actually very interested to see what my friends would say.

Was very hard to pull apart - it stuck rather well. Nice dark black colour. Never really had anything to do with Molasses before so not sure what I expected. But not something I liked. Very very strong and I think that's what put me off. I tried a couple of pieces to make sure I wasn't just being fussy. But not something I think I would personally go out and buy. Kids weren't big fans of it either, I think was a bit strong for them as well and they normally love everything put in front of them.

I love Licorice and can eat it by the bagful and still want more so I as really surprised when I opened the bag and had a taste and found I hated it. Just to be sure that the he product was given a fair trial I gave some to my parents who were definitely not sold on the product, my mum ate it and said she wouldn't be buying this as it "wasn't her cup of tea" and my dad said it was too rubbery after he finally managed to chew it so he also declined another taste. I tried my three kids, my daughter loved it but my boys took one bite and spat it out and told me it was the worst thing they had ever eaten.

I have had all sorts of Licorice from really sweet to incredibly salty but this product doesn't taste like anything I can describe, it wasn't sweet, it wasn't salty, it is just hard to explain the taste. I wanted to try this product as I work in a school and often find I need an energy boost but since I don't love me it I will have to keep looking, the pieces all stuck together so it was a struggle getting a single piece free.

I like the idea of the product being natural but I don't want to compromise taste for natural ingredients so this is not going to be added to my shopping list.

I have always been a big fan of licorice, although I must admit that the black varieties aren't at the top of my list as I usually prefer the red coloured licorice. Having made some changes to my food intake in recent months I am always on the look out for new, healthy snacks and treat type foods for the times when I just need something. At least if I know it is a healthier version then I don't have to feel bad if I indulge just a little bit!

The packaging is very simple. A mostly white bag with an image of the licorice and the words are featured inside a red box. This red certainly pops and would make the product stand out on the shelf. I do prefer clean and clear packaging so this certainly fits what I like. I think this clean and simple look matches the product too as it is a healthier option. The bag is resealable which is handy. There is nothing more annoying than trying to find a twist tie or bag clip to close a bag. I also feel as though resealable bags keep the product inside much fresher.

The bag was very easy to open. The first thing I noticed upon looking inside is that all of the licorice pieces were clumped together through the middle of the bag. To be able to get a piece out I had to pull it off the big clump which was a little tricky to do as they had all stuck together quite well. There appeared to be quite a few pieces, but couldn't easily count them being stuck together and I didn't want to pull the whole clump out at once. Taking my first bite I was pleasantly surprised as it tasted just like any standard black licorice, but then the flavour started to change. In the middle, the licorice turns very salty and it is quite chewy. The after taste is quite different too, although I really don't know how to put it into words. My husband had a piece and his first response was that it was interesting. I asked how it was interesting and he said that it was very salty and certainly not very sweet.

While this product may appeal to some, and it would be a healthier choice when wanting something similar, I don't think it will be one that we buy. I am not a big fan of salt, so the salty-ness puts me off eating any more. I also feel the price is very high for the amount of product in the bag.

Ok, we are lovers of licorice, and especially black licorice - it ails all sorts of symptoms. To our surprise this Orgran Gluten Free Molasses Licorice is nothing like anything we have had before! We are usually RJ Licorice fans and often Black Knight - so what a surprise at the difference in the texture, taste and after taste of this product.

I can't say it was loved by those who tried it after the experience of the others. Unfortunately the after taste is rather tinny - maybe it is because it is free of gluten, wheat, egg, dairy and yeast but we are missing the sweetness. The product was lumped together but with a bit of effort the pieces came apart.

Loved - the packaging on the front is clear and crisp - plain easy to read statements. On the back is a number of facts in a number of languages, but it took me a few reads to identify it is made in Australia (I like to know where products are made).

I don't think this is a licorice that will feature in our pantry or parties unfortunately but I was delighted to go beyond the brands known to us and try something new. The cost at $7.20/bag is also higher than the others so I may not have purchased it on this fact alone. I am sure those looking to try a gluten free licorice for their dietary requirements may find this satisfying.

Licorice has always been something I've enjoyed eating, from fond memories of having some of RJ's soft eating licorice to managing to wheedle some allsorts from my dad and discovering Dutch licorice up at a local speciality store. When I saw these I wanted to try them, not just for a different flavour and variety but also for the fact that I have a few vegans in the family and I'm always keen to find something that the family vegans and non-vegans can enjoy alike. In regards to the information on the back of this packaging, if I got this off the shelf I would have put it back as soon as I read Palm Vegetable Oil and not looked at the rest of the packet. However, there is a small bit at the very bottom that informs us that this palm oil is the good kind and not habitat destroying time, so perhaps and asterix or something to draw attention to this blurb...?

I pulled this out when I had one of my vegan relatives and his son over, along with two who are slowly going vegan and three vegetarians. All commented on how the pieces were stuck as one giant lump but at least pulled apart with minimal effort. My nine year old refused the offer for any whereas miss eight and miss six eagerly out out their hands and requested more without having finished the first. My grandpa refused these after being told of how chewy these are but my nanna had three pieces and would eat these again. My uncle, the vegan, enjoyed his piece and went back for more, with his partner stating that whilst she doesn't eat licorice often, she'd like to have this again. My mum and I have finished the rest between us however whilst my mum thinks it's nice enough, she prefers other brands.

I like the flavour enough to eat it and finish off the pack solo, however price means I probably will only buy again if on special. But when the vegans come to town I will recommend this to them.

When you are on a low sodium diet but adore licorice, there is only one answer. Buy a good quality brand and eat small portions. Works for me! This brand looked intriguing, so I brought a packet home to share with the family. I did not think the younger ones would like it but was determined they would all have a go. There were fun and games on opening the packet because the pieces were all in a lump, but they separated readily without breaking so no worries on that score. The children had fun making the pieces into a smiley face as they pulled them apart. Somehow, licorice has that effect on them! I guess it feels a bit like playdough.

Anyway, we all took a piece and then came the feedback time. To my surprise, both children loved it and wanted more. They are not used to a lot of sweet things, and don't expect a lot of sugar on desserts. Miss Five liked the flavour - my fears that it might be too adult for her palate were groundless. She took a little while to finish her piece because it was quite chewy, but there was a big smile on her face and she requested a second piece before she had quite finished the first!

Mr Seven, our fussy eater, said it was just right and he could probably manage a second and third piece to make sure he had tested it properly. He said it tasted like "proper licorice" and it might be a good idea to put some in his school lunchbox as it was probably good for him. So much for pre-judging what the children would say!

Their father was also positive about the texture and flavour. He likes salty food, often adding more at the table, so he enjoyed that aspect of it. He had his with coffee and said they went very well together. He also does a lot of the cooking, and he thought the pieces would be really nice sliced into thin circles and use to decorate light coloured desserts like pavlova or custard. I thought it might also be nice on top of rice pudding.

My daughter was ecstatic about it. She said it reminded her of the licorice we used to buy in Europe - the really strong variety you can buy all along the West European coast from Norway down to Portugal, with the best coming from Holland and Denmark. It was readily available when we lived in Ireland, sold both as small pieces and as licorice "pipes" for the children. This product took her right back to her childhood. She thought the ideas for decorating that had already been discussed were good; personally, she liked the idea of including it in a home-made lolly cake as that would reduce the sweetness while adding flavour.

And me? I agreed with all of them. I liked the not-so-sweet molasses flavour and the rich, dark colour. The price was a little steep, but a packet would last me for quite some time. Of course, I can't say the same about the rest of them - but we will definitely be buying it again.

As soon as my daughter saw the Licorice in my review box she started begging me to taste one. I can't really blame her, she has been brought up loving Licorice since she was practically a baby. Whenever we go to mums or nanas there is always a container of Licorice sitting in the kitchen just dying to be ate and I always have some sitting in the fridge - its just a family tradition that has been carried on. I told her that we were trying them for dessert, well I have never seen her eat her dinner so fast and she finished before any of us and ran and grabbed the packet. It killed her to wait while her sister, myself and her daddy had seconds, and funny story after having the Licorice she asked if she could also have more dinner.

She already had the scissors ready, even though there was a tear area in the packet. When I finally agreed she had already used the scissors on the top and excitingly put her hand out only for her face to drop and tell me there was only one massive Licorice in there as it had all stuck together. She pulled it out and declared it was all hers. Luckily most of it pulled apart easily. It smelt like Licorice, looked like Licorice but unfortunately did not taste like Licorice instead it was more salty then anything else and the after taste was not what we are used to either. Her poor little face dropped so fast and she declared that she was never eating another one as long as she lived and stormed off.

I can not pin point exactly what is it is with these besides the salty after taste but I can say they are not my favourites. Maybe we are just a family who enjoys our sugar. The packet has been sitting there on the table since Wednesday and nobody has gone near it nor asked for another one. While sitting here writing this I have tried another two and the flavour still has not grown on me - on the plus at least this packet has lasted longer then a couple of days.

I know Gluten Free products are primarily more expensive but I do find the price to be rather expensive. Not something we will be buying again. I understand we are not the target audience due to the Gluten free aspect but I am still glad we got to try and find out that not all licorice are made the same.
