Not much of a vege fan usually coz I am too much of a carnivore. This pie has given me a new look on things grown in the ground. Full of yummy veges in a creamy sauce that really took me by surprise. Again the pastry was really nice and didnt fall apart but it tasted a bit different to the other pies and I guess it could be that since it is a vegetarian-friendly pie they might have replaced something in the pastry to keep it pure-vege. All good.
Being a pie officianado, I have eaten a LOT of pies. (Who ate all the pies... who ate all the pies... SHUSH! That's enough thank you!) Many flavours, some strange, some just downright WIERD, but all had their good points and bad points.
Maketu Pies captured my attention with their rendition of my favourite flavour, Steak and Cheese. Today, alas, when I went to Foodtown for lunch, they had sold out of S'n'C... so I grabbed a Vegetable Pie instead. Not a great fan of Vege Pies, but needs must...
-munch-. YUM! SURPRISE! I liked it! I liked it a LOT! A truely delish pie I must say. Full of real veges, chunky enough to provide real bite, but small enough to keep the pie un-lumpy... a well produced pie to be sure, to be sure. (Worth saying twice, not a typo.)
Overall... highly impressed. Can't wait to try the rest of their range. If all their pies are as good as the ones I have tried so far, this company should start to branch out NOW! There is a HUGE badly-tapped market out there, currently filled with crap pies and over-inflated prices. Go for it Maketu, go for it!
