Wasgij 11 : The Beauty Salon product reviews

What has happened in this beauty salon to make everyone's hair stand on end? Surely this should be an experience of pleasure, not pain!

The picture you see on the box lid is not the puzzle picture, it is simply a clue to the puzzle picture. Look into this scene entitled `beauty salon' and imagine you're the impatient partner outside the salon looking in - what he can see beyond and including the shocked client waiting to go in is the view you have to complete.

Now I am not much of a jigsaw puzzle nut, I usually prefer the 3d model jigsaws... more challenging. So when I found out about Wasgij puzzles, I simply had to give this one a go. The image on the box cover is NOT the same as the image on the puzzle, so there are very few clear hints to match against the pieces in front of you... this means that your only hints come in hundreds of tiny bits...

Once the obvious border is assembled, it's more a case of matching the pieces by looking at the pieces, instead of the box cover. This is a challenge I could really sink my time into, as I found it not only highly calming, but also found it sharpened my observation and image-analysis skills... this comes in real handy in my line of hobby, digital art.

Overall, though it is (obviously) not to everybody's taste, for those who enjoy challenges, this is a great one. If you know someone who really enjoys puzzles, the tougher the better, then this is the perfect gift for them, add it to your shopping list.

I am a jigsaw fan from way back and I found this puzzle to be a lot of fun and a real challenge. I found the box lid to be full of tiny hints but in the end it was easier to just look at it once to get the joke then just ignore it until the puzzle was fully assembled then I could compare the two and really appreciate the joke. This one is quite a giggle. I thought it was one of the most fun puzzles I have done in a while.

I have done jigsaws many times in my life, but this was my first ever wasgij. I started as with most other puzzles, finding and assembling all of the border pieces. Then my attention wained as I started to realise my strategy of looking at the box for piece placement was not going to work.

I would suggest that anyone not completely comfortable with their puzzle skills not try these types of puzzles, as it can be quite hard to visualise something in a fictitious place and time, but not in the picture you can see...

Though it is not my thing, it is still a good edition to the family 'wet weather activities' cupboard.
