My family really enjoy the option of the quick, easy and tasty options of wraps for tea, after a long day of both work and school. We especially like cooking chicken in different ways, such as crumbing or marinading in teryaki sauce or similar and wrapping in a tortilla with fresh salads, cheese, tomatoes or just whatever! So easy for picky eaters, they can create their own masterpiece and there always seem to be less arguments that way as they don't leave uneaten food on their plate!

Farrah's Burrito Spice Mix was right up our alley, and it gave me the chance to introduce beef mince to wraps. I checked out the packet and I see they said I needed a can of hopped tomatoes and kidney beans, so after a trip to the supermarket, I prepared our dinner. The packet was really easy to open and I was impressed to see how much was in the packet, there was heaps, so much so I thought I'd better check the packet again in case it was meant for more than one meal, I couldn't see anything to say that but I did decide to use only half. This decision was based both the amount of mix and the "mild spice" note on the front of the packet; I thought it might be too spicy for my family so decided to err of the side of caution.

The mix did smell really nice, the scents and flavours were really pleasant and made the mince mix really tasty. I'm really glad I only used half the mix as I suspect we wouldn't of enjoyed it otherwise, the heat of the spice would of just taken over. I would purchase this spice again and I would recommend to people who enjoy spicy mexican food and love quick and easy meals.

My family love burrito's! We also like using burrito spice mix to marinade chicken in and then oven cook which is a simple yet tasty dinner. I decided to try Farrah's Burrito Spice Mix for this quick and popular meal for my family. Upon opening the packet (which was very simple and did not require scissors) and giving the contents a quick sniff, I was met with the spicy aroma of chipotle chilli, coriander and cumin.

I cut up 2 chicken breasts and mixed them with the spices and, once cooked, the chicken had a lovely crunch to it and the spices were very flavoursome with a slight 'kick'. My girls did say it was a little spicy (the packet says mild) but they always add mayonnaise or garlic aioli to their burrito's so once the chicken had been dipped a few times they ate it up and really enjoyed it. My husband likes his food hot and spicy and said he would definitely want to use this spice mix again. I really enjoyed the taste, it felt like I had just grabbed the ingredients fresh out of the cupboard and mixed them together!

I like the fact that there are no artificial flavours or colours, the spice mix is gluten free and that it is made in New Zealand so you are supporting a NZ company. I will definitely be replacing my usual brand of burrito mix with Farrah's and I will be keeping an eye out for different products in their range.

Picking the Farrah's Burrito Spice Mix packet up before I ran out the door I was pleased to see that I had all the ingredients I would require besides the Burrito Tortillas. We had some left over rice and vegetables from last nights dinner, can of tomatoes, onions, mince and of course grated cheese - simple as. After a hectic day it is nice to know dinner will be on the table within about ten minutes without much work required at all.

The packet says medium spice and when I opened it up, which has to be mentioned on how simple it was - it just tears apart - I was met with the most beautiful Mexican spice aroma. I was confused on how much to add to my mince mixture and as it said 1x Farrah's Burrito Spice Mix I assumed they meant the whole packet and placed it all in with the mince. Automatically I was met with the golden brown colour to the mince and it reminded me of my meals in Mexico.

It did not occur to me that it would be spicy and rather silly of me I forgot to get some sour cream, not that it is mentioned on the packet. But both my girls and myself agree it is rather hot and spicy, much more than any of us were expecting. After my first bite I had tears in my eyes and had a rather full on coughing fit. On closer examination of the packet it says 'Once open, store in an airtight container for up to 1 week' so I am assuming that means you do not use the whole packet all at once, good to know if ever use again.

I found the heat was so over powering that I missed out on tasting the flavour of it as both my throat and lips were burning. I do not do great with extreme heat or spice and as this was both it is not something I would regularly buy. But in saying that as the price is extremely reasonable, it is still something that I might consider using again in the future. However, this time only using a couple of tablespoons of the spice and having a tub of sour cream on hand also. My husband who loves his heat really enjoyed the dish and ended up having a couple of them. My girls both struggled with it and so I am glad we had extra food in the dish that they could just mix into it.

For such a small packet it sure does have a kick to it.

My husband and I always enjoy creating wraps and simple salads for our dinners because they are usually very quick and easy to prepare and lets face it, who wants to cook a big complicated meal after a long day at work?! When I received my latest review parcel I was pleased to find this Farrah's Mexican Range - Burrito Spice Mix.

Tonight I had some chicken in the fridge to cook for dinner. While deciding what to cook with it I remembered the burrito spice mix in my review parcel and decided to team this with some vegetables and the Farrah Burrito wraps that were also in my review parcel. The packet mentions their recipe using mince but I decided to use it with chicken. It does state at the bottom of the packet that it can be used with chicken too. I cut a red onion into wedges and sliced some capsicum before cutting my chicken into thin strips. I cooked the chicken for a little bit by itself before adding some of the burrito spice mix to it. The packet was so easy to open. All too often you use the "tear here" bits on a packet to find that it doesn't tear all that easily, but with this packet that isn't the case.

Upon opening the packet I was met with a pleasant mix of spices that I could smell even though my nose was blocked with a cold and hayfever! Knowing that the packet said it was a medium level of spice I decided just to sprinkle a little bit onto the chicken as I am not a big fan of really hot spices. The smell was amazing as I stirred it through. I left the chicken and spice to cook for a minute before adding in the vegetables. I then added a little bit more of the spice and a bit of crushed garlic and some lime juice. Once this had all cooked I served it up in the burrito tortillas with some lettuce and baby spinach leaves. My hubby is a fan of spicy foods so left his like that, and mine I added a little bit of lite aioli just to bring the level of spice down a bit!

As I sat down to begin my tea I loved how bright and fresh it all looked on my plate. This is the kind of meal that makes you feel good as you know it is light and healthy. Upon taking my first bite I was hooked! The flavours were just amazing. The spice level was good, it definitely had a kick but the garlic aioli helped to bring this down for me and even though I drank a fair bit of water I never felt like my mouth was burning. I really did enjoy this, as did my husband. We will definitely be adding it onto the shopping list in the future. We used about 1/3 of the packet so $3 for a mix that will last 3 meals for us is pretty good value. It will certainly become a staple in our house over summer. I look forward to trying it with mince, steak and finding other ways to use it too.

When I first opened the packet, I was greeted by an aroma I remembered from my days in London, going round the East End where I lived and exploring all the various food shops with their wide range of products from a number of sources. Caribbean, Greek, Pakistani, Chinese, Jewish and Italian spices and takeaways vied with one another to tempt the shopper. It was there that I learned to experiment with my cooking and to be open to the huge possibilities to be explored.

I had great fun with this spice. I made the usual tortilla recipe with skinned frozen tomatoes (the remnants of last year's crop), onion, minced beef and kidney beans and using the directions on the packet. They were really straightforward, but because I was cooking just for myself, I had plenty of spice left over so I decided to explore some other ways of using it. I found it went perfectly with pasta - a teaspoon added to a rich sauce offered an entirely new flavour and made the humble spaghetti bolognese a culinary experience.

I had managed to get hold of a can of okra, so I tried this next with some fish and rice and came up with my own version of Cajun stew. I hesitate to call it a gumbo because it was considerably different from the conventional recipe, but it was certainly a good substitute. This went down really well with some crusty bread rolls, and the cumin flavour really came into its own without being too hot.

Finally, I finished up the packet for lunch! No, not on its own - I had been given half a dozen free-range farm eggs and was facing a couple of weeks of never being home for dinner, so I decided to get organised and take them to work with me. I boiled the eggs and shelled them, and while they were still warm I chopped them then mixed in a tablespoon of mayonnaise, two teaspoons of Burrito Spice Mix, and some chopped parsley. This made sufficient for sandwiches for a whole week, and the mayonnaise and spices acted as a preservative so that the mixture stayed fresh.

Possibly the egg sandwich spread was the most successful combination of all. I could have put slightly more spice in, but that was the last of the package so it had to suffice. But you can always experiment with the amount as the quantity is a personal choice at the end of the day. I actually added some sliced avocado on the last two days of the week and this provided a pleasant variation.

This will now be on my shopping list so that I can try out some more possibilities. I am looking forward to trying it with some more egg dishes as I found this combination works especially well. Next on the menu will be a souffle made with a mild cheese so that the flavours don't clash too much.
