When Zach meets his new neighbour, Hannah, he wants to be best friends. Until he meets her dad, a spooky guy named Mr. Shivers. Only that's not his real name. Shivers is really R. L. Miss seven has become obsessed with Goosebumps since the movie started being advertised on Nickelodeon. I was lucky to be chosen to review the activity book, which just made her ask more questions and then I was really lucky to win this book. As soon as she saw it she sat down and started to read it - but I got her to stop and instead it became our new bedtime book. I was a little concerned it was going to be scary or too advanced for her but she handled it like a trooper and it did not phase her at the least.

It is the first 'grown up book' that she read entirely on her own and I was not even allowed to read a page which blew me out of the water. I think because the pages are split in half with it either being a camera photo from the movie or text, which was rather large so it was not that daunting for her when she first looked at it.

The story is nice and easy and very simple to follow. It tells how the characters in the story become alive when the book is opened and how Zach, Hannah, Champ and the author of the story R.L. Stine have to stop them before they create havoc throughout the town. It is very engaging and extremely enjoyable. The only problem is it is not divided into chapters at all it is just one long 48 paged story. Finding a place to stop was very hard as it just continues, so it was just a matter of picking a page and stopping mid story. She managed fantastically to read and is already asking for my Goosebumps stories to read and of course she now wants to see the movie. I have to admit so do I.

A really enjoyable book and a great endorsement for the movie and the rest of the series. Well worth reading. She came home yesterday saying a friend wants to borrow it so they can have a sleep over when the movie comes out.

Both my son who is 8 and step-son who is 11 are huge Goosebumps fan which I definitely encourage as I too was once a huge fan. I jumped at the chance to review this and was ecstatic to be chosen. The images throughout the book are from the movie, they are clear and well set out. Some could be a little creepy but we love this kind of thing so that was not an issue for these boys.

They way it is written it is like someone has seen the movie and is telling a friend what happened. There are a few twists and turns if you have not already seen the movie. Both myself and the two boys read the book in one sitting it is a book you simply do not want to put down. This would be a great book for someone who is wanting to see the movie as it tells you what to expect and what level of scariness to expect.

Mr 11 had already seen the movie but Mr 8 has not. He is now even more eager than before so that is on our to do list before the holidays are over. Great book and it is nice to see Goosebumps has not changed over the years and is still such a big hit!

This book is like a reader style re-telling of the newly released movie story-line. It is presented in a soft cover book, with lots of excellent full colour photos from the movie. The blocks of prose are backed with vivid colour as well. Despite the colours, each page was readable to me. I think it even helped the lettering pop a bit on the pages.

When my husband saw the cover-art to this book one night, he was disturbed by the faces of the movie characters. He thought that one of the character's faces had been painted really badly. I showed him the movie trailer and then he agreed that it was a photographic image of the actor and there was nothing wrong. Though he was a bit worried about the content of the book.

I only read this to Miss 8, though Miss 3 did get a hold of it and flip through a couple of times. She liked the images, but I wasn't going to read it to her. Miss 8 was drawn to the book and interested in seeing the photos and the monsters. What I liked was that she really wants to see this movie, so for me it gave us a way to see what happens and how it unfolds. The trailer looks really scary and although I know it's a PG rated movie I was not sure I wanted her to see it. Now I feel a bit more comfortable with it.

I don't think a sensitive child would deal well with the contents of this book, or the movie. But for a child who likes the adrenaline of a good scare and who is already a Goosebumps reader, I think this would be great. It would also be an excellent gift for Christmas, for kids who liked the movie or who want to see it.
