Aroha Sparkling Feijoa product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsThere is perhaps no fruit more quintessential to New Zealand that the Feijoa.

These green grenades of flavour grow so well that during the New Zealand autumn they will choke your lawnmower if you can't eat them fast enough. The mower will release a sweet, fruity, almost intoxicating aroma making you want to kick back, relax and enjoy the last of the summer sun (so stay focused).

When we combine the Feijoas with the Elderflower something very special happens. You will see why the drink is called Aroha because you will indeed fall in love with the combination: floral and fruity, citrus and sweet.

I really enjoy feijoas and am always so excited when I see them available in the fruit shops for a few months during the year, though obviously buying them in the shops can never compare to the excitement I had as a child during feijoa season where I used to pick up bagfuls each day off my Nana's lawn, it was always such a race between my siblings and I as to who could find the biggest feijoas.

Feijoa isn't a flavour that I have really had artificially in products before, I think i've probably tried it once in a supermarket smoothie? I was really looking forward to tasting this drink and was hoping it would be a lot nicer than the rhubarb Aroha drink I had tried in a review previously. This drink contained Elderflower which is something I hadn't before tried until the review drink! I let my bottle of drink chill in the fridge for the day and after work I couldn't wait to open it as it was a very hot day. I poured my sparkling feijoa drink into a glass and served it with ice. To be honest I have to say that I couldn't taste the feijoa as much as I had expected to or as much as I would have liked to but the drink was still nice, it did seem to have a definite taste of elderflower though.

To be fair if I saw this drink in a shop or a cafe I probably wouldn't choose to buy it, though I would still recommend it to others I know who are absolute fans of feijoas. especially for the price it is, just not quite my cup of tea.

Feijoa is one of those fruits that I love, but when in drink form...well it's a lot more like 50/50 as to whether I enjoy it or not. Some feijoa drinks are right on the fence (I still can't tell if I like them or not). But this Aroha beverage is simple. No confusion. No need to double check. I love it.

Like the Rhubarb variety, this drink also contains elderflower, but it isn't all that noticeable compared to the strength of flavour that comes from the feijoa. The feijoa is the focus point, and it makes the point well. this one seems to feel a bit more heavily carbonated, and the drink (while very bubbly) did not feel as light as it looked.

This drink was gone in under 3 minutes. One sip, two sip, and the rest was downed. It was too tasty to wait around and think on it further, which should say a lot about the drink considering I need to write the review on it! I almost felt slightly nostalgic, as the colour, flavour strength, and carbonation level reminded of the Appletiser that I used to always drink during xmas time as a child (quite the coincidence that I am reviewing this product in December).

This beverage is however superior to other brands with their focus on sugar alternatives, using stevia and elderflower to sweeten the drink, and provide a healthier drink, without sacrificing the flavour. Will definitely purchase again if I find it.

Feijoa's are my all time favourite fruit so it was just natural that I requested to try Aroha's Sparkling Feijoa drink. I've tried quite a few different types of Feijoa drinks but I'm pretty sure I've never tried a sparkling one before. I'm not sure why I never thought of it sooner but it tastes delicious with with bubbles.

As soon as my review packaged arrive I put this drink in the fridge to allow it to cool down, it's getting hotter now so cold drinks are a must have. I let it cool over night and tried it the next day after work. As soon as I opened the bottle I could smell the distinctive small of feijoas but it wasn't too strong, just enough to get you ready for the drink. After my first sip I was surprised to taste only a hint of feijoa, I expected to have a full blown feijoa overload but combined with the bubbly texture I found it was the perfect mix for a refreshing summer drink. I was also surprised to find out there wasn't any gritty texture in the drink, not even at the bottom. I, personally, am used to this texture and don't mind it but I know a lot of people who are put off by it so the fact that this drink doesn't have it is awesome and opens up the range of people who would like it.

I left my bottle half finished on the bench for a couple of hours to see how well it tasted warm and how well the fizz lasts. While the drink was just as fizzy as when I left it and it tasted perfectly yummy warm, as personal preference goes, I much preferred it nice and cold, straight from the fridge. I wouldn't suggest adding ice cubes to it because as they melted it would dilute the flavour more and I don't think this drink needs any less flavour but if, for some reason, you found the flavour too strong then adding some ice cubes could work for you.

I think this would taste amazing with some vodka, a tiny splash of lime and maybe some mint mixed together, in fact I think I might have to source another bottle just to try it.

My family loves the taste of feijoa. We bought our house purely because there was a feijoa tree, and we tend to buy products when they come in feijoa flavour. I have tried a lot of feijoa or feijoa mixed juice drinks, but not many sparkling feijoa beverages.

It was so hot the other day, I decided to crack open a bottle of this Aroha Sparkling Feijoa. I put a small amount into my daughter's glass and some into mine. My first taste I wasn't sure I entirely tasted feijoa. I could taste that floral taste that sometimes comes with the fruit. But it wasn't overwhelmingly feijoa in flavour. I thought that there might be a few seeds in the bottom, but I didn't get that grainy sensation either.

I'm sure most people could give or take the grainy texture of feijoa juice, but I kind of like it. And I missed it in this drink. Nevertheless I drank this and enjoyed it. It was nice chilled and it was very refreshing. Eventually the taste of the feijoa did come through, but it was a more subtle taste to what I was expecting.

Meanwhile my daughter asked for more drink. I re-filled her glass and she downed that. Then she asked if she could have some more. I gave her the rest of the bottle, despite thinking I would share it with the rest of the family. Afterwards, she was patting her belly. I said "was that nice?" Oh yes, she agreed it was really nice. It was so nice it had filled her tummy and it felt lovely and fat. She gave it a few firm pats to show me. I asked if we should get some more and she thought that would be a fabulous idea. So she was definitely sold, even if I am still a little on the fence.

I love feijoa and all things made from feiloa, food or drink wise. I was excited to try this and was looking forward to seeing how well it would measure up. I chilled the bottle as I love cold drinks, makes everything taste better. On my first sip I felt like it had a after taste of honey, to me I felt like it was a honey flavoured drink, then after a couple more sips and reading the bottle, I could taste the feijoa and I guess the after taste I was getting was from the elderflower infused mineral water.

The bottle looks nice and eye catching, which was something I noticed. I also like reading the ingredients and seeing no fat, and also stevia and cane sugar used. The drink itself is refreshing and light. I am used to drinking feijoa drinks that are thick and pulpy so it was nice to try a sparkling light drink. I'm not sure if I am completly sold on the taste but thats my personal opinion. I think I prefer feijoa drinks that are stronger in flavour, to me this drink tastes like honey. Which was one ingredient I was expecting to read on the bottle and shocked when it was not there. I'm not too sure where the honey taste comes from, or if my taste buds are off.

If I was at a cafe and saw it in the chiller I think I would still buy it again, as I said earlier its refreshing and light and served in a glass with ice would be nice to sip away while having lunch. I would recommend it to others to try, they might not feel the same about the honey taste that I think.

I am a very passionate fan of Feijoa, and I consider it my only real failure in life that I have never been able to get 'my own tree' that produces fruit. Sure, bought plenty, stuck them in the ground, even got to the point of seeing flowers on one at one point... then had to move house. That was the closest I have ever come to being able to say "These are feijoas grown on my own tree!" This failure has caused an insatiable desire in me to try every feijoa product I see. So... here we are...

First off, feijoa juice oxidises very quickly. Ever noticed how fast the fruit pulp starts to turn brown... worse than apples! So, unless you use some very fancy bottling techniques you end up with a murky brown liquid. Not so with this bottle - a wonderful golden juice with a light fizz to it that offers refreshment and a tingle on the tongue on a hot Summer day. If you get one this year. Pokey Tongue Icon

While I enjoyed it, I could not fail to notice the slight chalkiness I seem to taste in every carbonated drink that isn't loaded down with massive amounts of sugar and artificial flavours. Still, though I am not a fan of the taste, it is a sure sign for me that the drink is far healthier for me than almost everything else I tend to drink.

I was very surprised to notice on the bottle's label, in very small writing, that the water isn't just carbonated, it's also elderflower infused mineral water... so the chalkiness could possibly be more to do with the extra minerals than the carbonation process. The addition of citric acid explains the lack of browning of the natural feijoa pulp, and it's really good to see that Aroha Drinks have made the effort to reduce the amount of sugar needed by adding Stevia as a secondary sweetening agent.

Overall, a very respectable drink, though the slight chalkiness did disappoint me a tad. For those who like a bit of a Summer mixer, I would suggest pairing this with something like vodka to avoid drowning out that wonderful feijoa flavour. You could use gin but the tartness of that may overpower the feijoa and cause you to waste this amazing nectar. Serve this well chilled over crushed ice with a little splash of pineapple or peach juice and some crushed mint for a refreshing spritzer.
