I am a huge fan of books and could spend many an hour reading if time and life allowed. Thank fully I am a quivk reader and so even when my life gets crazy busy I can still find time to read and generally finish reading a decent novel within a couple of days. It is extremely important to me that my children read and it makes me happy that two of my three children love to read.

My daughter takes after me. She adores reading and can spend many an hour with her nose in books. Her love of reading is the reason she began reading chapter books alone by age 6. Shes nearly 8 now and ger book collection is larger than mine. It has only been in the past six months that we discovered the Ella and Olivia seroes. And she was lucky enough to receive this one from the Duffy books in school.

Every night she requests a story while she has her bath and then I of course read her a bedtime story too. We began this one while she bathed and finished that night as her bedtime story lol She loves Ella and Olivia and of course the timing of receiving the book was perfect with school athletics coming up at her school. The more Ella and Olivia books she reads though the more she wants a little sister yo compete with haha

The Ella and Olivia books are nicely written, with simple pictures. They are easy to read and understand and have nice wee hidden messages within. Miss 7 loves that the books show the competitivd nature of siblings but also show the importance of caring, trusting, supporting and loving family and friends. Thry are really great life learning books without being in your face because they are still just a story too.

A wonderful little series of stories that any young girl will enjoy :)

We settled down to read this book last night after finishing off our last chapter book. My daughter and I like to share books like this. She is not independently reading yet, so it's a shared effort. It's something I have come to really treasure at night too. The longer books are now more acceptable and they don't always have to have pictures like they did when she was little. The Ella & Olivia series is the perfect bridge between picture books and novels. It's topical, she can relate to having a sister, and living with an almost 2 year old.

In this book, Ella, Olivia and their whole family are in training for a school sports day. I like that the family train together. I really liked how realistic the parents are. The dad in this is pretty funny, and the mum is written as the stronger runner of the two which made me happy (my husband could run circles around me but that's not the point).

At one point the girls are in gold and green and their mum calls them her little Aussies. That was a wee bit jarring, but only because I hadn't realised that they were Australian. I didn't think the series was local, though. I guess I almost expected them to be English or American.

These books are $10 each, which is actually really good value for money. They are easy to read, easy re-readable and entertaining too. I would certainly buy this book, especially for a 5th or 6th birthday or Christmas or just when it's school holidays and reading practice is in my court.

Overall the book was great. The focus being on sports, it was able to cover trying, winning, sportsmanship, or how to lose with grace. These are all things that my super competitive daughter could stand to have modelled for her in a book. Another star in the series.

Product reviews for listing 2319: Not a Stick
Author: Antionette Portis

Product image for Not a StickA beautifully designed book, celebrating the power of the imagination to transform even the most ordinary of objects into something magical. A stick is just a stick! Unless it's not a stick. From fishing rod to dragon-taming sword, a small pig shows that a stick will go as far as the imagination allows. Antoinette Portis captures the thrill of when pretend feels so real that it actually becomes reality. Her simple, spare text and illustrations show that seeing truly depends on the ability to believe in the possibilities.
