    •  Fact: I will one day be a VERY famous fashion designer.
    •  Fact: My new neighbor Mika is trouble - triple trouble!
    •  Fact: Even chickens must look their best.

This is the first novel in the Lotus Lane series. Kiki is really into fashion and she has a little dog called Maxi and three chickens. My daughter thought that she was really lucky to have chickens and immediately wanted to know all about them. She also thought Kiki was really lucky having all those eggs every day.

Kiki's diary is a fun read. Much like Coco's diary, there are lots of funny illustrations, and the font is cool hand-printing style. Occasionally the words are made bigger or smaller to make a point. There are snippets from their mobile phone conversations and Kiki also adds a lot of facts.

This story is all around the new girl in the street, called Mika and an art competition they are having at school. We get to know a bit more about the Lotus Lane girls and their friendship. We also get to know a few things about Japan which is where Mika is from. The fashion showdown and the outcome was nice.

I did find things a bit catty and emotional, but also pretty realistic to how friendships go at that age. These are the sorts of things my daughter is starting to have to navigate at school too. That meant I could talk to her about things that do happen and open that dialogue while we read. We are looking forward to finding out how things progress with Mika in the third book.
