The Possession product reviews

Based on a true story, The Possession is the terrifying account of how one family must unite in order to survive the wrath of an unspeakable evil.

Clyde and Stephanie Brenek see little cause for alarm when their youngest daughter Emily becomes oddly obsessed with an antique wooden box she purchased at a yard sale.

But as Emily's behaviour becomes increasingly erratic the couple fears the presence of a malevolent force in their midst, only to discover that the box was built to contain a Dibbuk, a dislocated spirit that inhabits and ultimately devours its human host.

Based on a true story... hmmmm... whenever a horror movie states this loud and clear on the cover, or in fact, anywhere within the movie, description or poster I am always sceptical and that always takes a little bit of enjoyment out of a film as the producers are assuming that I am dumb enough to believe it. The story that this is based upon pales in comparison to the contents of this film, but I must remember I'm not here to review that statement LOL Icon

It all starts with a young girl, who lives with her mum and sister, and weekends they live with their dad. It's a recent break-up, so obviously going for the, she's just had her family life disrupted she's extra vulnerable route. It's not a bad route, and obviously does create more drama as the issues to begin with only arise when she is living with her dad, but, it is also very clichà ©d.

The special effects are good and flow smoothly. There are plenty of chances for it, and it does a good job. The plot, well, it's what you'd expect. I certainly didn't find anything particularly new about this movie but it was a decent 1 and 1/2 hours viewing time. The length was perfect as any longer and I would have tuned out.
