Ok we received this book to review, and first I would just like to say the cover really catches ya eye and intrigues you. There is little on the cover. A massive X with a planet in the top half and the destroyed planet in the bottom half. The rest of the cover is black apart from the book title: Extinction: The day the world ended. The story line sounds awesome, and I myself am yet to read the book, but do intend to.

Master 10, however couldn't wait to start reading, and he has informed me that the book is one of the best novels he has read this year. He thinks it is definitely worth the money, and he couldn't put it down. His bed time is 8.30pm with 30min reading time and then lights out, I was finding him still sitting in his bed at 9.30pm engrossed in this one, and the same thing said every night: "Oh but mum please I'm nearly finished this chapter" Smile Icon I admit that this is possibly the first book I have witnessed my son unable to put away.

Master 10's review, in his own words: Its a very interesting book about how the world ended and only two survivors were left. They look up on the internet for the day that the world ends, and a page comes up about the day and they have to put in their names and all their personal details, then there are flashing lights, and codes and then stuff saying there are other survivors in the 4 corners, but that is all I'm telling you about the story because I don't want to tell you what happens, but man it is awesome.

A great book for the younger (tweenagers) readers, that will get their minds thinking outside the square and keep them engrossed for ages. Definitely worth every penny.

I absolutely loved the cover, it really expresses the whole "extinct" feeling, although I'm still wondering if the planet on the cover is earth, because I can't see any landmasses on it. The start of the book was cool, it had good action in it, especially when the twins dived into a whirlpool.

The coolest part of the storyline was when the twins found out that everyone in their town had died, I was actually scared a bit myself. The story was so interesting that every page I read made me want to read the rest of it, like a Black Hole pulling me into the centre the closer I got. I found the book so good that I couldn't stop reading it until I had finished it, in fact I had my nose buried in it so far that it seemed like time had slowed to a crawl, then speed up again when I wasn't reading it.

When I had finished reading "Extinction" I had two things that told me there was a sequel coming up; one- the story ended before the children had finished their mission, and two- the half-infinity sign on the binding told me that if another book came out on the shelves then it might have the other half of the infinity sign on it; and if this is true then I'm looking very forward to reading it.

I think that this book would be good for kids 10-15 due to the fact that some parts of the storyline do not seem suitable for kids under this age group. If you like high-action books that make your heart pump hard, then "extinction" is a book that you'll LOVE, so get yourself a copy and let the adventure begin!

Yes, this book is pitched at a readership far younger than myself, but during a drought of reading material, it looked far more tolerable to other options stacked around the office... and I am glad I chose it. Though the 'youth' of the story will probably prove to be a little tedious for an adult reader, kids aged 8+ are likely to find it very exciting. There is drama, thrills and adventure galore, but it's not over the top and crowding out the storyline.

I liked how this book ends on a cliffhanger that will seque cleanly into the next title, but I have to wonder, based on the progress the characters have made in the 250-odd pages of this volume, how many books will make up the series. I get an implication of it being a trilogy, but honestly think that if the plot keeps zooming along like this, a second book will wrap it up with room to spare.

I loved the concept of 8 in the plot... how it appears everywhere key plot elements and devices need to be revealed... sometimes subtle, sometimes far from it... and I really want to know about "...the new pulse of the world..." and how that plays in... I was expecting it to be binary or something that had 8 as a factor, but since it doesn't, even I find myself curious and keen to read the next book.

Overall, though adults will find it sub-par reading, kids will love the thrilling plot twists, supernatural powers and 'spy stuff' scattered liberally throughout.
