We recently received the book Daddies are great! To review. With father's day just been and my partner working 70 hours a week over the last couple of months I thought that this would be the perfect book to review so he could sit down with our two sons and enjoy a book together. I had a quick look through when it arrived I loved how simple and cute the illustrations where this would appeal to our 6 and 2 year old as they would focus on the book rather than looking at the pictures.

The meaning of this book is true Daddies are great! I love how after each page they took a moment to discuss what they had just read together especially the page that daddies read bedtime stories and help you count sheep. It is nice to sit down and read a book with the children that they can relate to their own life and it got them thinking about all the great things dads do
.
The illustrations in this book are wonderful we love the dog theme that runs through the book and it's great that the kids can get a sort of double education on why Daddies are great and also the different types of dogs there are in the book. This book would make a wonderful gift for father's day or it's perfect for any family bedtime story I think that this has definitely become one of our new favourites at bedtime.

Daddies Are Great is a beautiful book that shows the special relationship between Fathers and their children. I was lucky enough to pick this up as part of my review goodies this month and Miss 2 and her Daddy have been reading it over and over ever since, The front cover has a cute Daddy dog and his puppy and my daughter straight away commented on this "look Mummy there's a big dog and a baby dog", as we read the book through the first time I soon realised that each page had an adult (Daddy) dog and a puppy of various different breeds all doing different poses.

The story is really easy and fun to read as it is written like a bit of a rhyme, with only a short sentence on each of the page it makes it quite a quick read which is ideal for Miss 2 who loves to read stories but often gets a bit distracted after a lengthy story. The illustrations and gorgeous and show the real bond which a child has with their father. My daughter loved relating the pictures to things which she loves to do with her Daddy such as reading bed time stories together. It didn't take her long to notice the difference between the sizes of the dogs on each page and starting pointing and commenting on each of the dogs saying "here's the Daddy dog and here's the Chloe dog, i'm only little", after a while of reading the book (probably about 5 times over) she decided it would be fun to make the bigger dog into a Mummy dog rather than a Daddy dog, so that the book was about me and her rather than her and Daddy, although when it was Daddy's turn to read the book it was soon back to being a Daddy dog.

I loved watching my daughter and her Daddy read this book together as they don't see each other very often due to his work commitments, so it was nice to see them sharing this special story and helping to remind her Dad just how important his relationship with his daughter is. Throughout the book they talked together about things that they like to do together, which I thought was lovely.

This is definetely a very precious book that i'm sure we will treasure with its beautiful graphics for my dog loving little Miss. Although i'm sure this will be a requested book year round, I will definetely be sure to bring it out close to Fathers Day for Miss to enjoy with her Dad, i'll probably even take it to work and share it with all my daycare kids, whom i'm sure will love it to.

Product reviews for listing 6042: The Thorn Birds
Written by Colleen McCullough

Product image for The Thorn BirdsIn the early years of this century, Paddy Cleary moves his wife and seven children to Drogheda, an Australian sheep station, owned by his autocratic and childless older sister. For more than half a century we follow their fates, particularly those of Meggie, the only Cleary daughter, and the one man she truly loves, Ralph de Bricassart - stunningly handsome, ambitious, and a priest.
