I have enjoyed James Patterson's work for a younger audience so far. When I saw this book for a slightly older audience, I wasn't sure about it. But I thought, given my enjoyment of the previous books I have read, I would give it a chance. Having read this now, I would definitely try other books in this series and other more adult books by the author.

This book seems to be book three in a series about the Angel family. While this is the first book I have read, and there were some things I didn't know going into the story, it didn't seem to matter. Some of the gaps are revisited so I got a sense of who was who and what had previously transpired.

This book didn't take me long to get into, though I did struggle with some of the setting. The Angel family are clearly very well off. The descriptions of the luxurious places they go are a little over the top. Maybe it's just that it's a different world to what I am use to, but it seemed very flashy and the point of the descriptions were often lost on me. Though, I'm guessing I was meant to really like James as a character I found him to be a complete jerk. Which made me mad when there was so much puppy dog stuff about him.

Despite that feeling, I enjoyed the book and it only took me a day and a bit to finish. I found myself reading it well past midnight the first day. I even got up early the next day to read on. So it definitely was a gripping read. The secrets took until the very last minute to come together and although you have a good amount of the information by then, it all comes together and makes more sense.
