Personally I am not a fan of the Captain Underpants series of books, but I have read a couple or three in the series in my time lol ;) But even though I, a grown woman, am not a huge fan means nothing because my kids, boys and girl, love Captain Underpants. And what is not to love?

For kids its a story that covers all their favourite things; toilet humour, saving people, blowing up stuff, creating things and super-heros ~ what more could you ask for in a book for kids? Its easy to read with simple illustrations. The original releases were all in black and white, but this latest re-release is now in....full colour!! :) and it has a hard cover too, hooray!

My children were absolutely thrilled to receive the full colour version and could wait to dive into the pages, even though I am really to grown up and mature (haha) :P for these books I openly admit I prefer the non-colour version. Just think it fits better with the storyline :)

Warning this book may not appeal to some parents, but their children will still love it!! lol

I hadn't intended on introducing my son to Captain Underpants but when it came up for review I thought why not give it a go - I'm finding that there's not much choice when it comes to buying books for 6 year old boys.

This is the first Captain Underpants book and it's all about how Captain Underpants came into being - two boys who are a couple of class clowns end up hypnotising their school principal and turning him into Captain Underpants, a super hero of their own invention. You can imagine the chaos that ensues! The story is original and I was interested to learn that it shares a lot of similarities with the author's school life.

The book wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. My previous reluctance to read it was solely to do with the use of toilet humour - hilariously funny to little boys but not something that I want to encourage. However it wasn't as prolific as I feared and the book had both my son and I laughing out loud at times - within the first couple of pages in fact. The story is fast paced and action packed and it held my son's attention from beginning to end. The illustrations are fun and I loved the addition of the flip-o-rama section where you flick through the pages and it animates the action.

Overall a very entertaining read and I'm happy that I gave it a chance. I can see us reading it over and over again.
