My husband and I first tried the mexican crispy chicken seasoning as part of a taco kit. While convenient buying the kits can be a pricey way to prepare a meal so on my next grocery shopping trip I decided to see if I could buy the components separately. As I arrived at the mexican section I found very easily a row of different seasonings, and there was the crispy chicken one! I took one and placed it in my trolley along with a cheaper packet of wraps and some salsa. I was set!

A couple of days later I decided we would have these for dinner. I thawed out the chicken and set to work preparing our dinner. I cut the chicken up and placed in a plastic bag as suggested and then sprinkled the seasoning on top. I had used less chicken than stated, yet the seasoning definitely didn't cover my chicken as well as it appeared in the picture on the packet. I wasn't surprised about this though because how often are we shown images that products don't actually stand up to? It happens far too often!

After heating the fry pan in went the chicken. While it was cooking I had time to prepare everything else I needed for the meal - the salad, grated some cheese, and warmed up my tortillas. I always love the smell when the crispy chicken is cooking. It makes me even hungrier! Putting the tortillas is always easy, and I find that by the time you fill them with salad you don't need a lot of chicken which makes the chicken and the seasoning go further. I usually have plenty left over for lunch the next day and it tastes just as nice cold as it does warm. I poured a little salsa over the chicken to finish off our tortillas before starting to eat.

As usual the flavour was amazing. I am a bit fan of chicken that has been seasoned or coated slightly and served alongside salad. This is something we eat a lot of in summer, and the crispy chicken seasoning will be something that is eaten a lot in our house hold once the weather starts to warm up again and we feel like eating more salad based meals.

I have tried this Old El Paso Crispy Chicken Seasoning a couple of times now in wraps, as a way of making popcorn chicken for Miss 3 and more recently as a great addition to soft tortilla boats. Our family really likes crumbed chicken and so we have tried many different varieties that are available on the market, we often find that these are all much of a muchness, however I have to say that this brand did have a whole different and unique taste compared to others I have tried and it also had a different way in which you coat the chicken, as I am used to coating chicken in a wash of egg and milk before dipping in a coating to cook.

To prepare this crispy chicken you pour the seasoning into a snaplock bag and then add your chicken, seal the bag up and shake, shake, shake until you get an even, all over coating, I have to admit that I did not find the coating stuck particularly well and so I was constantly pressing my hands against the bag to help the coating to stick to the chicken, I also thought that the bag needed to container a bit more seasoning than it did.

The flavours and smells were very strong and it definitely suggested that which you would expect from any Mexican meal. I cooked my chicken in a frying pan with a small amount of oil until crisp and golden and cooked through, and all seemed to be going well until it was time to turn the pieces where I found that a lot of the crispy coating tend to stick to the bottom of the pan rather than the chicken which was a real shame. The chicken had a bit of a kick to it due to the herbs and spices that were used, though I certainly wouldn't call it spicy, in fact the had a very citrus, lemony taste to it I thought. Miss 3 wasn't a fan, though me and my partner quite liked however I wouldn't say it's our favourite! Served with some salad and sauces in a Farrah's wrap it makes for a nice light meal especially in the hot summer months.

I would be willing to buy this product again for future Mexican dishes, and for the price it's not to bad at all.

My husband accidently picked up a packet of this at the supermarket a while ago when he was getting taco seasoning. When I found it in the cupboard last night I decided to get some diced chicken and to give this a go with a set of the Farrah Wraps I was trialling for KIWIreviews. This Crispy Chicken Seasoning comes into a little packet much like any meal addition spice mix. I really felt like the packet was too small to contain all the spices and breadcrumbs promised. As I read the packet I was waiting for it to say somewhere that you needed the breadcrumbs to add as well. It didn't though.

The packet was a bit tough to open as there were no nicks in the side of the pack. I had to use a knife to open the side. When I did the spice smell came out. It had a slight citrus and Mexican spice smell. I could smell that it had some heat to it. It was yummy. I added my diced chicken to a bowl and then added the seasoning. I did this because I didn't have a plastic bag as was suggested on the packet. Mixing with a spoon in the bowl was fine though. The chicken got a good coating. I then fried the chicken in a frying pan with a little oil.

The coating did stick quite a lot to the bottom of the pan. However, it didn't all come off and the result was mostly coated chicken that was mildly spicy and quite delicious in our burritos of rice, sweet chilli, cheese, sour cream, cheese and tomato. This was a fantastic change to our normal Mexican meal and I think everyone was really impressed. The cost is quite a bit for the limited amount of seasoning you get. However, for something a bit different it was definitely worth giving it a go and I would try it again.
