I went to the Hoyts Jr session of Hi-5 Some Kind of Wonderful with my two daughters (4.5 and 3) on the day it opened. Tickets were only $7 each ($21 for 3 of us to go to the cinema is a bargain.) It was only 60 minutes long which was the perfect length for a preschooler's attention span and bladder.

This was unlike any Hi-5 we had seen before it was more of a documentary. I thought it was a cross between Hi-5 and Australian Idol as there were fifty hopefuls trying for three places (two female and one male) in Hi-5. It covered the history of the group and the interests of the existing members as well. Unlike the Idol type programmes we see, there was no big announcement and tears as the hopefuls were culled. The judges only talked positively about them.

The audition consisted of the hopefuls performing Hi-5 hits. There were also clips of the existing group preforming these same songs. Stevie and Lauren, the two members that are continuing with the group, performed with the hopefuls as well as being the hosts to the show.

I was predicting who was going to join the new Hi-5 line up and when they got down to the final ten I was certain who it would be but I was wrong about all of them. The highlight for me was when they were all transformed with costumes, hair and make up to be Hi-5 style. They all could have be the real members.

I wish the three new members all the best and watching the new line up perform I can see they are connecting as a group already.
