Deltora is a land of monsters and magic...
The evil Shadow Lord has been banished, but famine still stalks Deltora, and only monster thrive. As the starving people weaken, Lief, Barda and Jasmine discover a terrible secret. The Enemy left the seeds of death behind him. Four vile creations of sorcery called the Four Sisters are hidden in the land. I must admit to be a little surprised at just how much I enjoyed this first book in the 3rd Deltora Quest series. Even without having read the others, it didn't take much to catch up on the back story and understand where we were.
The main characters, Lief, Jasmine, Barda and Doom are very easy to like, even reading this as an adult, I enjoyed following them on the first part of their journey.
This will appeal to any fantasy loving readers and the storyline is very engaging (plus being a long time dragon fan doesn't hurt either). Being a book for the younger readers, it is shorter so more fast paced, however, unlike some, you're not left feeling too rushed or that parts of the story have been "left out".
What I also enjoyed is the reader is further engaged through the use of illustrations, most often showing puzzles the characters are solving or the letters that need to be decrypted. As a parent, I love this way of getting the reader more into the story and feeling "part of it".
Thumbs up from me and looking forward to reading some more.
