The words that come to mind when thinking of Chocolate Mud cake are Rich, decadent, and moist and Cinderellas Chocolate Mud cake hits the nail on the head for all of these. I don't do a lot of baking so I normally hope for the directions to be very easy to follow and also hope what I am making is forgiving if I make any mistakes. I followed the directions on the box to a tee and I thought maybe I had made a mistake as it seemed a bit too liquidy to imagine that this would bake to a moist cake consistency but that is exactly what it did.

After I had baked the cake and it had cooled I decided to spruce it up a little bit by preparing a peanut butter cream cheese frosting to layer in the center of the cake and on top as I want to give it a bit more diversity of flavor instead of just purely chocolate. I added 200g softened butter, 100g cream cheese, 100g smooth peanut butter, and 1/2 cup of icing sugar mixed it all together, and then applied it to the cake. I topped it off with mini chocolate shell drops and placed it in a container to wait until after dinner.

After dinner, I sliced up the cake and served a piece each to my children and one slightly bigger piece to myself. The cake was super fluffy and moist bursting with that sweet chocolate flavor and the creaminess of the peanut butter frosting added that slightly salty-sweet punch that finished off the flavor sensation nicely. If you are no expert in the kitchen like me then don't be afraid to give this a try as it was really easy to prepare and bake and turned out fantastic. The kids all loved it which I already predicted would be the case and for $6.00 for this, it is great value for money and I don't have a single bad thing to say about this at all.

I was hoping I would have lots of help to eat this product as I am not a great fan of chocolate cake - especially mud cake. It is usually too rich and sticky for me; I prefer to leave it for the others to enjoy and just have a small taste myself. Much to my surprise, I found I actually enjoyed this version. It was not as heavy as others I have tried, and nowhere near as sweet - and the icing was ideal, not too much of it, but enough to provide the moisture necessary for comfortable chewing.

So back to the beginning. The preparation was simplicity itself. I had my cousin and her boys to help, and they were keen to do the cooking, so I let them go for it with some supervision. Mr 12 is quite competent but Mr 11 likes to cut corners, and he also likes to scrape the bowl, so I needed to be sure he would not eat the mix before it got to the oven. He did manage a taste when I was not looking, and announced that it was a good mix - so I relented and said he could clean the bowl after the cake was safely cooking!

The recommended cooking time was exactly right for our oven. The cake was ready in 40 minutes, and tipped cleanly out of the tin while still hot. This was another point in its favour as I had suggested to the boys that they let it cool first, but selective deafness had taken over. I did get my way when I asked them to wait till it cooled before they iced it. Mr 11 suggested that he could taste the icing to make sure it was ok, but I put a stop to that - I could imagine half the icing disappearing before it got to its destination. He was fobbed off with a promise that once the icing was in place he could scrape that bowl too!

When the cake had cooled and the icing was completed, the boys took charge of cutting a slice each for the five of us and decorating the surface. They both thought the icing alone was a little boring, so I gave them some fruit and said they could use that. Then we all got to taste the result. And, as mentioned previously, I actually enjoyed it. We ate three quarters of the cake then I put the last section into the fridge for later. I had another plan for it.

After my cousin and the boys had gone, I took the remaining quarter out of the fridge and divided it between two small plates. I added a few raspberries and macadamias on top, and then piled on some vanilla-infused whipped cream. A dish made in heaven - I don't think I will ever say I dislike mud cake again. We certainly enjoyed our cafe-style dessert!

There are not many people out there that will turn down chocolate cake, and mud cake at that, so I was excited to try this Chocolate Mud Cake ready mix from Cinderella, as I usually associate the brand with things like raisins and baking ingredients like that. Cake mixes are a great thing to have in your cupboard for the last minute invite or gathering where you do not necessarily want to outlay lots for all the separate ingredients, but box mixes can sometimes not have the best results, so I was interested to see what this one would be like.

The box and packaging itself are easy to distinguish, with the teal coloured box and a lovely enticing picture on the front of the (expected) cake, and a possible way to decorate and finish it. I did note that it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans - however, that would only be if you did not use egg or butter (I would have thought) as per what the required additional ingredients are that you add to the mix?. That aside this is a really easy and straight forward mix containing two packets (both clearly labelled) - one for the cake mix and one for the ingredients. My 12.5 year old daughter said that it was super easy and I can attest to that as she really only needed help to make sure the oven was on correctly and to set the timer.

After about 35 minutes we tested that cake, as we prefer a quite moist cake, and I was pleasantly surprised to say it did need that 5 minutes more and it was then perfect. It made a lovely dense yet light, moist cake that begged to be eaten! We decided to make up and ice the cake straight away (after letting it cool) and found that there was a lot of icing (not a bad thing!) so we ended up icing some biscuits as well with the leftovers. The icing itself was made as per the instructions and was beautiful and smooth and lovely and chocolatey. We also decided to add the extra touch of shaved white and milk chocolate to the top, which the kids all loved!

I found that this whole process from start to finish making this cake was really easy and enjoyable and will definitely purchase it to make and take somewhere, to wow people with my skills - kind of like the New World ad where "no one said it had to be made from scratch"!!

Based on this I would absolutely give other Cinderella mixes a go as well - as both this and the triple chocolate brownie have been delicious!!

In our household we have a passion for baking, especially my 8 year old son, who wants to be a baker when he is older. During the lockdown we were finding it hard to source flour when we did groceries, so started buying various baking mixes, which my 8 year old enjoyed making. When I saw that Cinderella had a new range of baking mixes available I decided to try them.

The box colour is teal and very visually appealing, there are minimal words on the front, and a mouthwatering piece of mud cake also. This mix has no artificial colors or flavours, includes the icing, and serves 10. The only extra ingredients you need to add are 2 eggs, water, and some butter. The company states if you do not love this product, you get your money back.

We preheated the oven and greased a cake tin, poured the cake mix in a bowl, with the eggs, water, and melted butter, easily mixed with a spoon and poured in the tin. The cake cooked in the oven for 45 minutes, when a skewer came out clean. When it came time to ice, we melted the butter with the water, and added the icing mix, stirring until it was a thick consistency. The icing poured smoothly onto the cake and spread evenly, I couldn't resist and licked the icing bowl, the icing was delicious!

Tasting the cake together with the icing was fantastic, the cake was nice and moist, and deliciously chocolatey, teamed with the sweet icing it was perfect. In our opinion this baking mix is handy to have on hand in the pantry. We will be purchasing again in the future.

One of the best things about being a mum of kids who love to eat is they are willing to do the baking if I am too busy. My eldest volunteered to make for dessert and seriously who am I too say no. It is beyond easy to make and does not require many extras just two eggs, water and butter for the cake and some extra butter and water for the icing. Besides being super easy it does not require a lot of dishes so hardly any mess to clean up with afterwards.

From start to finish including the icing it was well under two hours and by the time she had it finished we were all dying to have. There is no better way to eat a home made cake then having it slightly warm with a good helping of whipped cream. In retrospect we all had bigger eyes than our stomach and were very generous with her cutting as the cake itself is very rich and you really do not need a lot to feel content. I think the icing definitely adds another layer to the cake and my youngest suggested adding lollies in to it next time.

This is perfect for people who are on the go and really don't have the time or the patience to cook a cake from scratch. It is simple for anyone to make and tastes great. Price wise its fantastic as you don't need to provide much extra to it. I do really like the *add a little magic tips! at the bottom of the box that suggests cutting it in half and adding raspberry jam and whipped cream to it. Honestly what a fantastic idea for the upcoming christmas parties (if any actually do occur - as, while writing this another one has cancelled) oh well I am sure as a family we could easily polish it off.

Gosh, this is going to be an embarrassing review. Now, I don't bake cakes that often. Usually, it is something that I occasionally do with overripe bananas and I like the cake very moist to the point of practically being batter still. Cake mixes I haven't used too often because they can tend to come out a bit dry, so I often avoid them. However, I do like the general ease and lack of measuring required for cake mixes. Needless to say, after I tried the Triple Choc Fudge Brownie mix by Cinderella (which was incredibly moist), it's safe to say I was pretty excited to try this cake out.

A little too excited. While I only needed two eggs, butter, and some water, I was caught off-guard by the fact that I didn't have any eggs or butter in the house, so I rushed out and went food shopping, which turned into a whole thing, and two hours later I was back home, rushing as I try to cook dinner AND bake a cake. Now, at least the cake mix is easy, right? I chucked the mix in a bowl and added two eggs and some water and mixed it up...except I didn't read the jug properly. In my haste, I accidentally dumped 1 and 3/4 cups of water into the mix, instead of just 3/4 cup. My cake batter looked like a chocolate soup. Runny, and at that point, there is no coming back.

So bear in mind when you look at my photo and read my review that this is not a review of how the cake mix is meant to go. This is what happens when you rush and put more than double the required water into the batter. As any man would do (when he makes a mistake), I doubled down and carried on as if nothing was wrong. I emptied my cake "batter" into the prepared cake tin, chucked it in the oven, and waited with bated breath.

Now, the end result is that the cake barely rose at all. My cake ended up being maybe an inch and a half tall, and very (do not underestimate the "very") dense. But what it certainly wasn't, was dry. It was moist, it held its shape, and the density gave it a rich flavour. Not as decadent and rich as the triple chocolate fudge brownie (which was never an expectation), but a surprisingly cake-ish cake considering my butchering of the recipe.

The chocolate icing was incredibly easy to make, adding some butter and water to the second mix pack, and it came out just right. It wasn't too liquid and seep over the edge, neither was it too thick and tearing the cake apart to spread. It complemented the cake itself well, and when presented at the work meeting, it disappeared in less than half an hour. I'd consider that a success.

I love home baking but sometimes there are occasions when a packet cake is needed. My oven had broken and I didn't relish making this at work. As luck would have it, I was invited to a friend's house for a BBQ and asked to bring dessert so I said yes, on condition I could use her oven. I decided to prep the cake first and it was extremely easy, just mix in 2 eggs, 3/4 cup of water, and 4 tablespoons of melted butter. I lined a cake tin, poured in the mixture, and off we went to my friends. As per the instructions, she preheated the oven to 180oC and when it was heated, I put the mud cake in. I'm usually wary of following instructions exactly so when I checked the cake after 40 minutes, it was starting to burn around the edges. I let it rest in the pan for a further 5 minutes before turning out onto a cooling rack but I did notice that this cake had not risen and did not look like the decadent cake photo on the box. I did wonder if it was because the mixture had been sitting for 30 minutes prior to going in the oven but for me, the taste is always more important than the looks. I waited for the oven to cool and then made the icing. As I was around my friends, I didn't want to hassle her further so just used water for the icing which worked out fine and it was easy to spread over the top of the cake (there wasn't enough for the sides).

As soon as I put the cake down, the vultures, in the form of 5 kids aged between 7 and 14, started cutting it up (hence no photos!) Everyone said how delicious it tasted and I thought I better tuck in before the cake disappeared. I have to say I was impressed by the chocolatey taste and it didn't taste artificial like some packet cakes. It was moist and tasted very close to being homemade and the fact that it was half the height of the cake on the packet didn't affect it in any way. I caught the kids cutting more and when we went home, there was no cake left. I would definitely recommend this if you are not a great home baker, or in a rush and need something tasty and convenient to cook.

Who doesn't love a chocolate mud cake with a bit of ice cream or cream. If your anything like me and baking is not your thing you will probably rely on boxed cakes. Given the chance to try the Cinderella Chocolate mud cake we were hoping for a new favourite cake.

The Cinderella Chocolate mud cake comes in a blueish coloured box with a picture on the front. It is easy to see that this is for a chocolate cake. On the back are easy to understand instructions on ingredients needed and the baking instructions. They were very clear with pictures next to the ingredients needed. My seven year old was able to follow the instructions easily.

Inside the box were two packets. The first, the bigger packet, was the cake mix. The smaller packet was the icing. These packets also had written on them which was which. Opening the packet of cake mix and tipping into our mixing bowl the mix appeared well mixed. We added the required ingredients, eggs, butter and water. The mixture was easy enough for my daughter to mix with the wooden spoon and mixed quiet fast. We then poured the mixture into the prepared cake tin. The cake tin we used was a little large but was the only one we had.

After 40 mins we tested the cake and it was done. Although it wasn't a very tall cake my daughter was happy with the way it looked. We let it cool and then made the icing. The icing was chocolate and easy to prepare by adding butter and water. It created a good icing mixture that was spreadable on the cooled cake.

After dinner my daughter pulled her cake out for desert. Next time I will cook it in a smaller pan as the outsides were a little dry but the center was nice. Everyone commented on how well she had done and despite the little over cooked edges the cake was finished.

Overall we found the Cinderella Chocolate mud cake easy to cook with easy to follow instructions. I would advise cooking it in a smaller pan than we did as if it wasn't so small I think it would of been a really delicious cake.
