I had looked at the ads on TV for Vernest Lange's Scrapbooking Memories kit with longing. I could not believe my luck when I was given the opportunity to review it.

The kit includes lots of backing papers and frames, in different colours and patterns. Some of the papers and items are themed with things such as sports, celebrations and holidays. Because of the American origin of the kit, some items are not so useful (e.g. stickers saying "mom" and borders for Thanksgiving/Independance Day/etc.). Most of the background pages have generic patterns however, including some old fashioned patterns that would be nice with sepia toned photos.

The kit also has many stickers and embellishments, although the embellishments are pictures printed on card, and not the common metallic, fabric or layered embellishments. There are alphabet stickers and tags in a variety of colours and sizes. Mini envelopes and shape templates are also included, as well as a 10 page scrapbook to show your work off.

I would recommend this scrapbooking kit for someone who has never done scrapbooking or paper crafts before. It has what you need to ease into paper creativity. If you were thinking of getting it, I would recommend putting aside some more money for other embellishments and extra bits and pieces to sass your pages up. Also, buying or borrowing a book on scrapbooking ideas is a must, as the accompanying ideas booklet is brief and a bit bland for the enthusiast. The set is big enough that it will keep you going for a long time; there is a lot of variety in each group of items.

For the more advanced scrapbook artist, this set would be a good base of 'raw materials' to start from but needs other items for unique and imaginative pages.

One good thing about the items in this set is that they are acid and lignin free. This is vital if you want to keep the integrity of your photos and keepsakes.
