500 Minutes of Danger product reviews

10 stories.
10 dangerous situations.
10 brave kids.
50 minutes to escape.

Bobby wakes up somewhere dark, cold, and enclosed. Has he been buried alive, or is something else going on? Ella's trapped in quicksand, and sinking fast. Will she escape, or will one of the predators roaming the jungle find her first? Kelsey has infiltrated a top-secret science lab, where a giant remote-control crocodile is being prepared to attack the city...
Jack Heath's ten more nail-bitingly dangerous short stories will fascinate and terrify during each full 50-minute countdown, as the dangerous situations play out right down to the last crucial moment.

Once again Jack Heath brings us ten short stories that each pack quite the whammy into thirty minutes worth of reading time (personal reading speed dependent). Each one stars a kid who is instantly thrust into a life or death situation and they all manage to be very different stories whilst all interconnecting around the story of a giant lizard like creature coming to wreck havoc on a small Australian coastal town. Each kid gets pushed to their limits, some seconds away from death, but in the context of the book and the pace it throws you into, none of their tales feel to far fetched.

One thing I really enjoy about this series is that Heath gives us a great gender balance, 5 stories starring girls, 5 stories starring boys, and they're written so that you could easily change the gender of the main character in any of the stories and it wouldn't change a single aspect of the stories, a real big plus for these. Not only that, but the girls get into just as much danger as the boys, are just as capable and save themselves. The stories each jump around, you get different snippets on what is happening and altogether give you enough to know the final full picture of what has gone on.

I am definitely adding this to the bookshelf for the kids to enjoy.
