My three children and I love to watch cartoons together, usually while cuddled up on the couch. During the recent school holidays unfortunately they were all unwell, coughs and tummy bugs meant lots of quiet time inside. Thankfully we had been lucky enough to receive a copy of 'Shimmer and Shine: Beyond the Rainbow Falls' at the start of the holidays. One afternoon we set ourselves up with some popcorn, and I plenty of cushions and blankets for comfort.

Before pushing the start button I admired the DVD case, the use of striking colours would certainly make this stand out on the shop shelf. There are several new characters on the cover which intrigued my children, they wanted to know if they were just humans or if they were genies.
There are 7 episodes of 'Shimmer and Shine' and a bonus episode of 'Nella: The Princess Knight', the disc has an approximate running time of 90 minutes. When the first episode started, the catchy song had my cbildren singing and dancing along with it. I was impressed by the vibrance of the animation, and the storyline to each episode flowed smoothly, the episodes were just the right duration to keep the children's attention.

My eldest son was beaming with happiness when he saw one of the new characters was a boy genie, this surprised him, he said he thought only girls could be genies. I believe this show helps to teach kindness and teamwork, while disguised as a fun, magical adventure.
The 'Nella: The Princess Knight' bonus was another hit with the children, the talking horses and unicorns were amazing. As a parent I was impressed with how this show teaches children about accepting people as they are, we will be searching for more of this show.

Overall I rate this DVD highly, but I do feel that it is targeted at girls rather than boys, although with that being said, the addition of boy genies made my boys enjoy it a bit more. I think that the ideal age for watching would be roughly 3 - 7 years of age. Looking forward to seeing what new adventure will come next for Shimmer and Shine and their genie friends.
