Pig the Star product reviews

Pig just LOVES attention. In fact, he's a great big show-off. But when another star appears at the photo shoot, Pig doesn't like it.

No, Pig doesn't like it at ALL...

The Pig the Pug collection of books has never failed in putting out laugh out loud fun to read children's stories, even as an adult I have laughed a long reading Pig's antics. For those that don't know Pig the Pug yet as the story states Pig is a Pug and I am sorry to say he is greedy and selfish in most every way! Pig has a house mate Trevor who is a sweet little dog who just wants to play with Pig but Pig really does not know how to share, as in other stories Pig gets his comeuppance in time as his greedy antics do him no favours.

Poor Trevor struggles to get a look in at the Pet Photo Show with Pig wanting to be the star of the show, he dresses up in a number of costumes in order to outshine Trevor and be the Star of the Show. Even throwing in a rap about being the best, Pig really does think he is a rock star and the camera needs to love him!! Oh was he grumpy when the photographer saw Trevor and thought he was the cutest dog ever, but as I said Pig gets a bit of a lesson when he tries to steal the spotlight with his LOOK AT ME attitude and has to sit back in the end and watch Trevor have his time to shine.

Poor old Pig great lessons on sharing as we have seen from other Pig the Pug books I wonder if Pig will ever learn to share properly. You can't help but love Pig and the illustrations in the Pig books are enough to entertain. Such humorous illustrations throughout Pig the Star as we see Pig in his vast array of costumes throughout the show. We definitely loved Rap Pig my 5 year old was in fits of giggles as I read out the rap and he looked at the pictures of Pig in his back to front baseball cap, baggy jeans and chains.

Another winner for Aaron Blabey in the Pig series that we will read time and time again, it's clear to see why Pig the Pug has been such a popular children's collection as the books are so laugh out loud funny I must say Pig the Star was fantastic and just made me love Pig even more!

Being an early childhood teacher I am always looking for new books to read to our tamariki and better yet, to add to my collection that can be read over and over again. I was quite excited to receive a copy of Pig the Star in my latest review parcel as our tamariki absolutely love any stories that involve animals. I took the book into centre with me and at the next mat time I read it to everyone.

On the first occasion that I read this book we had approximately 20 children and 5 adults in the room. By the time I was about two pages into the story all of the adults had come to sit down on the mat so that they could listen to the story.

The cover is very eye catching. I love purple so the colour stands out, but the picture of Pig is very very cute, and the children were laughing a his sunglasses, hat and necklace. The title is very easy to see and gives a little bit of an insight into what the story may be about. The first page of the book set the scene perfectly. All you see is a black background with a spotlight on Pig - which is how he wants it to stay through the entire story. He seems to be a character that wants to be in the limelight! As I began reading I picked up quickly that the book was a rhyming book.

We turned to the next page that started the real fun of this book, this is where the book started appealing more to the adults than it did to the children! On each page Pig the Pug is trying on different costumes. All five of the teachers ended up in fits of laughter seeing each of the costumes and had fun trying to name the costume first on each page, it became quite a competition. The children were interested too, but of course they didn't understand the costumes quite the way we did considering they featured people like Elvis and Marilyn Monroe. I also think our loud laughter made them wonder just what was going on!

The story itself had quite a good moral to it, although I do suspect that some of our children (our children are aged from 2 to 5) may not have picked up on it. It was good to see that not everything good happened to Pig when he was focused so much on himself and treating his friend so badly! This book will certainly be read time and time again in our centre, thank you!
