When a small flotilla of high speed boats begins harassing civilian vessels in the Gulf of Aden below the Red Sea, a special group of experimental warships is tasked to investigate and stop the pirates. The operation is lead by Captain Harold 'Storm Gale, but the danger is considerably greater than they first envisioned and lives are lost.
Enter Dreamland, with Colonel Tecumseh 'Dog' Bastian at the helm.
Storm is not happy by Dreamland's interference and in the midst of the one-up-man-ship one of Dog's team is killed by the pirates. Suddenly Dreamland are faced with a powerful enemy, an enemy who intends to cause maximum destruction and maximum pain.
Dreamland is a cutting-edge weapons research facility in the Nevada desert - home to some of the world's finest pilots and an elite combat unit that operates directly at the command of the US President.

This is the best Dale Brown creation yet. It has a completely new plot, with new aircraft and new characters. It takes place over the Gulf of Oman, where the settings are just right for a little fiendish terrorist piracy, and even world reknowned Osama Bin Laden pops his head in the door to say hello, as ultimate commander of the terrorist force.
With the appearance of new technology, and the use of some technology that hasn't been seen for a couple of books, once again, DREAMLAND and their marvelous WHIPLASH team do their best to stop some undesirable occurrances occurring.
Some new characters appear, and of course, some dissappear. New technology is introduced and tested "in the field" in the book.
All in all a great novel that I definitely enjoyed reading. It took my study time away from me, and was definitely higher than Brown's usual standard.

Suffused with rich satire, chaotic brilliance, verbal turbulence and wild humour, "The Crying of Lot 49" opens as Oedipa Maas discovers that she has been made executrix of a former lover's estate.
The performance of her duties sets her on a strange trail of detection, in which bizarre characters crowd in to help or confuse her. But gradually, death, drugs, madness and marriage combine to leave Oedipa in isolation on the threshold of revelation, awaiting "The Crying of Lot 49".
This is one of Pynchon's shortest novels and one of his best.
