I have never enjoyed the sensation of having high speed drills stuck in my mouth, brings back horrible childhood memories of a slack dentist who slipped and drilled into my gum and jawbone... very not so cutey-cutey. However, the constant nagging of my 5 year old lad prompted me to buy one of these and try it out. After all, I won't give him anything I don't know to be safe and harmless, and even possibly fun!

First off, it seems "Batteries not included" is something fading fast, with cheap 20-minute-lifespan batteries readily available to all primary manufacturers... so I didn't think much of the "Battery Included" message on the packaging... until I saw it was a medium-high end Energiser battery. Wow, quality... now THAT is a rarity. Got it home, and the little fellow couldn't wait... he hadn't even got his gumboots fully off before he was tearing the package open. After much discussion, he reluctantly handed me the toothbrush so I could inspect it first.

First impressions... heavier than expected, so I could assume that the motor inside wasn't some cheap aluminium-chassis el-cheapomatic-vibrosonic. The rubberised coating gave the whole toothbrush a good solid-grip feeling, without being abrasive or unpleasant. The microswitches to power up and power off are located under sealed blisters right where your thumb rests while you hold the toothbrush. Honestly, I just couldn't fault this unit at this stage.

-click- -buzzzzzzzzz- and away it went, humming away madly like a demented bumblebee was trapped inside. Now, for the real test... slap it on my teeth... -ARGH!- NOT PLEASANT! Memories of manic grinning nurses trying to suck the blood out of my cheek without fainting came flooding back. OK, well, let's try another tack... apply toothpaste and water, gather my guts, and -click- -buzzzz- here we go... Much better! The effect of having the bistles buzzing away on my teeth was reduced to about a third of when 'dry', and much more bearable. "OK little man, let's go get your one shall we. Let's get a BLUE ONE!" "OK, thanks daddy!" he repied with a huge grin.

It's been about a week now, and he and I both use our 'buzzy brushes' and for my part, I can honestly say my teeth haven't felt better! Usually, there is fuzzy-feeling by the end of the day, but not any more. My teeth still feel smooth and fuzz-free when they get their nightly cleaning ready to test the tooth-whitening gel... but that's another product, although it is also produced by Colgate, so watch out for it in about 3 weeks.

Overall, this toothbrush has some great features, few faults (so far, let's see how the battery life goes), and an impressive result so far. The only thing it is missing is one of the ridged rubber tongue-scrapers, which should gain much benefit from the vibrations. Other than that, if you want a nice, comfortable, active toothbrush that doesn't look like a small aeroson can with the toothbrush head glued to it's nozzle, this is most certainly the one you should be aiming for.
