Mr Peabody and Sherman product reviews

Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell) is a business titan, inventor, scientist, Nobel Laureate, gourmand, two-time Olympic medallist, and genius... who also happens to be a dog. Using his most ingenious invention, the WABAC machine, Mr. Peabody and his adopted boy Sherman (Max Charles - The Amazing Spider-Man) hurtle back in time to experience worldchanging events first-hand and interact with some of the greatest characters of all time. But when Sherman breaks the rules of time travel, our two heroes find themselves in a race to repair history and save the future, while Mr. Peabody may face his biggest challenge yet - being a parent.

The kids knew about this movie and I managed to find it on Netflix and popped it on for our weekly movie night, straight away my son yelled out the title and the three kids were right into watching it. I'm a sci-fi fantasy geek so I knew this would be right up our alley and right away I was enjoying it and the kids were glued. I love how Mr. Peabody uses time travel as a teaching techinque, I've often imagined that having a time machine to see the actual events would be rather awesome.

I love the dynamic between Mr. Peabody and Sherman, Peabody is very much a father though he doesn't really quite realize it and they have such an awesome bond. The bully situation is rather sad but at the same time feels realistic and the relationship between Sherman and Jenny is well done. There are quite a few puns throughout the film, some groan worthy and some clever, great for those of us who love puns. The film also gained my sons attention about some of the characters that we meet through time as they are real characters such as King Tut, DaVinci and the Trojan Horse, a great opening for teaching him a little more of our history (my son was most interested in why the Ancient Egyptians removed the body parts when dead).

This was a big hit with the family, my husband even stayed and watched the whole movie with us, usually he leaves once he's finished his dinner. The kids are keen to watch this again, as am I, it's a touching, fun movie with plenty of adventure, action and loving moments between father and son.

Our local playgroup puts on family movies for the school holidays and this holiday was the turn of Mr Peabody and Sherman since we always go (it is a good and cheap family outing) I didn't even find out what the plot was or anything.

I did enjoy the movie but found that at parts (like about 90 % of the time) it was really far fetched but in a good way. Why should a boy be allowed to adopt a dog but a dog can't be allowed to adopt a boy? What happens when the boy goes to school and gets teased for things out his control? How do you get kids to be nice to each other without telling the family secret? Once the cat is out the bag, how do you go back and save the history of the world?

I found that the animation was great, the voices were good and some of the jokes were funny. The movie held my 4 year old's attention rather well but since his best friend was there as well it was good to see them comparing what they especially liked.

This movie made time travel and the consequences more believable for kids. Just some of the ideas were a bit "out there". I would recommend this to family to watch as there is nothing really bad about the movie, no adult jokes and no bad language.

Directed by Jeff Nichols

Product image for LovingIn 1958, in the state of Virginia, the idea of interracial marriage was not only considered to be immoral to many - it was also illegal.

When Richard (Joel Edgerton) and Midred (Ruth Negga) fall in love, they are aware of the eyes staring at them and the words said behind their back. It is when they get married, however, that words and looks become actions and the two are arrested. The couple decide to take their case all the way to ... more...
