We were lucky enough to be selected to review Between the Pages by KIWIreviews - and I am so pleased!! What a lovely lovely story!!

I opened our package and popped the book on top of our pile, so that my two eldest would find it (cunning ploy to get them to choose it!) and straight away they were drawn to the lovely cover illustration and wanted it read to them.

The story is about two adventure hungry boys (or in our case it was changed to girls!) that are journeying through a rainforest, and have the book as their helper / saviour and guide. They come across all sorts of weird and wonderful ( and scary ) things as they are journeying.

Between the Pages is structured wonderfully, leading you in to the story, slowly at first, then faster and faster - making you turn the pages quickly to help Billy and Jack escape and continue. As the other reviewer mentioned, you somehow feel like speeding up will actually help them!!

It is a beautifully written book that draws you in and keeps you hooked till the last page, almost feeling the two boys excitement. The illustrations are gorgeous too - two cute wee boys dreaming of adventure and getting more than they bargained for!!

If you are worried about hyping your child up before bedtime, this may not be the best book - but, it is a great classroom book, in my opinion as an ex teacher, and would have all the children totally engaged and excited.

We have read this book a LOT of times since the first initial read and both my girls ( and hopefully our wee boy too ) love this book and everything to do with it so much that they had to create their own adventure, and be brave "essplorers" as my five year old put it!

At $21 it is a little pricey, and I would probably wait till it was on special - but, that said - the story is totally awesome, and is already a favourite in our house, and likely to be in most houses, I would guess!

Thankyou KIWIreviews for choosing us - we love this book!

This book was requested for story the other night and so I sat down with my eldest to read it. This is a fast paced adventure story about two young boys. They are traveling through a rainforest which is all we really know, with a book as their guide. As the creatures all come out of the woodwork (so to speak) the boys race faster and faster through the book until they come to the end.

This book is written in such a way, that you feel it slowly build in the first three or four pages and then it gets faster and faster. Shorter sentences and the pace intensifies. You feel like you have to race to the end, and your child is there along with you asking you to hurry. For this reason, it made it a quick read but also a fun read that demands a second time through.

The next time I picked the book up was to read to my youngest. I tried to sneak off with her and the book, but my eldest realised what we were doing and crept along for the adventure. So I had the two of them jumping up and down on my bed hurrying me through the book, squealing at each animal - but clearly having a lot of fun with it. And of course demanding a re-read and another.

I think if your child is a but wary of animals and doesn't do well with getting hyped up with a book, then you should skip this one. But most kids I know would absolutely love the excitement and fun of this book. There are a few animals where I have to admit, I wouldn't be running from myself. But by the time they come up, it seems we are running for the heck of it and it's all coming to the end anyway. Either way, the book is fun and we will be enjoying it again and again.
