Catan: Cities and Knights product reviews

You will require Settlers of Catan to play this expansion.

Dark clouds gather over the once peaceful landscape. Wild barbarians, lured by Catan's wealth and power, maneuver to attack. Their massive warships loom against the orange horizon. You must be strong! Barbarians attack the weakest targets, and the victim of their onslaught will be the player who contributes the least to the defense of Catan. Don't take any chances! Field your knights!

In The Cities & Knights of Catan, you engage in the defense of Catan and compete to build the three great metropolises of Catan. Each of these magnificent centers are even more valuable than cities and are safe from the barbarians. You must invest in city improvements, which you acquire using commodities of trade: Coin, Paper, and Cloth. If you improve your culture, muster your knights, and enrich your cities, you will be the master of the great realm of Catan!

This is the 4th edition released in North America and features all new artwork, and an insert tray with space to hold game components from Cities and Knights 5-6 Player Extension.

This is an expansion to the Settlers of Catan game which I have reviewed, so note you will need the base game to be able to play this game. Although the base game has heaps of playability, if you start really enjoying it, then you will probably be looking at how to expand on the game play and this expansion sure does add quite a bit.

Cities and Knights does add quite a few new rules and different game plays, so I wouldn't recommend learning this game until you are familiar with the base game. But it shouldn't be too hard to learn if you are familiar with Settlers of Catan.

This expansion introduces new resources, and a new flip-style booklet for each player - showing what stage you are at in the game and what you can do at that level. There is some working together as you try and stop the pirate ship attacking cities, however this is also a great chance to weaken other players too.

I like this expansion for the fact that it adds a lot more strategy and variety, but unfortunately I don't get to play this game much as it only really comes out when I'm playing with experienced Settlers players. I recommend buying it if you want more strategy without going to a whole new game or if you love Settlers and just want something new every now and then.
