Watties Pick of the Crop Diced Apples product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsWith the busy lives we lead today, it can be hard some days to get all the fruit and vegetables we need. Especially when we consider that dietitians recommend we eat at least five servings of fruit and vege every day as part of a balanced diet.

Some fresh ingredients are not always readily available, especially during winter months when many of our favourite fruits and vegetables are out of season.

Wattie's produce, coupled with over 75 years of canning expertise which helps to retain the goodness inside the can, gives you the taste of seasonal fruits and vegetables all year round.

Diced Apples - Delicious crunchy apples are picked when perfectly ready.

i really really love the Wattie's Pick of the Crop Diced Apples not only do they actually taste great on their own but they are perfect to add to baking and desserts when you need apple but have no fresh apples on hand.

Wattie's is always the brand of choice in our household when it comes to sauces and canned fruits, they always seem to be full of flavour and I love that the Wattie's canned fruit range has the choice of fruit with either fruit juice or syrup unlike most other brands which don't really provide you with that option. These diced apples are really good, they are diced into small cubes and kind of resemble the taste and texture of stewed apples, they are sweet and juicy without any added sugar.

There are so many uses for the apples and I have used them many times in various items. They work well as a filling for apple crumble mixed with some cinnamon, and are so quick to use just pour into a bowl mix in a sprinkling of cinnamon and add a topping and it's done. They are fantastic in apple and cinnamon muffin recipes and using this canned apple saves you a heap of time as you don't have to muck around peeling, chopping and grating apples. I haven't yet used these apples to make a apple shortcake but this is one thing that I would really like to try as I'm sure they would provide a great flavour.

These are definitely great to have on hand as apples are such a versatile fruit that you can use with almost anything, and being in a can means they have a fantastic life span, no need to worry about those forgotten apples rotting in the bottom of your fridge any longer.

Somehow I ended up with a can of diced apples in my cupboard...not even sure where it appeared from but it came in very handy when I found a recipe for apple crumble and with no fresh apples in sight it did the job nicely!

I have always bought Watties brand of canned food as it is a brand that ensures quality and it can be trusted to taste good as well. The diced apples were small dices that were sauteed of sorts to soft juicy cubes of goodness and worked very well in the apple crumble dessert cake that I was attempting to make. It was way less work opening the can of diced apples compared to peeling, cooking, draining etc whole apples like the recipe called for.

I will definately be buying more of this product as the apple crumble dessert turned out perfectly and by using the diced apples I am one step closer to preparing another perfect apple crumble! I am certain it was the less work/preparation that made the dessert taste better because I didn't have to slave away cooking the apples! I was able to quickly make the crumble which meant I was able to enjoy it more thanks to the can of apples.

It is also a double bonus that this can of apples doesn't have any added colours or flavours, what you get is pure apple in their own juice, with no preservatives and is a fabulous sources of dietary fibre! Also canned fruit...well canned anything lasts a long time too so it is okay for it to sit in the cupboards for a few months, a year before use...and is a perfect replacement for fruit that may not be in season at the time.

While it may not work out cheaper buying a can of ready made apples for desserts etc but boy does it take the hassle out so in my opinion the cost is worth it to make the job of cooking or baking easier and more enjoyable.
