My younger sister introduced me to Miss Melicious cupcake book when it first came out. At first glance I wasn't sure it was a book for me some of the flavours seemed way to out there and didn't seem like they would work in a cupcake. Up until then I had stuck to pretty simple flavours that I knew well. However over the next few weeks as my introduced me to some of her creations out of the book I knew I needed my own copy. What really made me decide I needed my own copy was when my sister made candied bacon, who would of thought that something like bacon could be perfect to add to cupcakes!

The recipes are so easy to follow and I'm yet to have a single one fail, I love how when you have to add odd things to it that it's all well explained. I also find the recipes are easy to switch around slightly if you are missing ingredients. I have followed the same recipe but switched the odd flavour around and still I come out with the perfect cupcake. The icing recipes are all so good too and at times I have used some of them on my plain cupcakes as well.

When it comes to cupcakes my Miss Melicious cupcake book is always at hand!

I coveted this book the moment I was made aware of it. So when I got some book vouchers for my birthday it was a very easy decision to get this gem of a book. I immediately got it home and started baking. What I love about this book is that there are so many amazing cupcake ideas in it. The ingredients are largely easy to source. So I was easily able to come home and bake a batch straight away. Some have taken some forward planning on my part, which has worked out fine. And others I am yet to try as I still need to get certain ingredients off the internet.

I have had this book for about 2 weeks and have made 9 batches of cupcakes. That is how inspiring this book has been. I love to bake, it is my stress reliever and my newest hobby. So this has just been the best! People are turning up to my house just to see what my latest creation has been and I'm getting lots of feedback and comments on facebook where I post my Miss Melicious creations.

I love that the cupcakes I have made are so easy to put together. They generally make the amount of batter they are meant to, though some recipes go over slightly or under slightly. The batter comes out glossy, luxurious and so easy to spoon into the cups. It feels like you are working with spoonable marshmallow. The cakes come out spongy, moist and full of amazing flavour. Everyone has had a favourite so far, and often they are not the same one. Some of the recipes call for you to do unspeakable things. Like curdling milk or adding something savoury to your batter. It all just works and is amazing.

I have a few tiny grumbles about the book. Firstly there is no contents page. At first I was okay with this, because it has an index but I miss the contents page. The cupcakes are also not listed alphabetically. I love that there is information in the book about how to track down the flavour oils you need for some of the creations. However, I didn't love that one of the websites didn't even work. That said, you can just google the brand and plenty of NZ suppliers come up.

I found myself eager to perfect my piping technique, so out came a piping gun and I've been loving making the different frosting styles and experimenting. My daughter exclaimed, 'wow it looks like you bought it at a shop'. She also declared one of my creations far too cute to eat. Of course she then slammed that cake in her mouth and made lots of "mmm" sounds. I love love love this book and have been recommending it to everyone.

I am totally in love with this cookbook!!!! I have always been inspired to make cupcakes but when i have tried i havent had much success... So far i have tried two recipes from this book, with amazing results both time round! Yay i really do love that i can officially now make cupcakes thanks to Miss Melicious!

As far as the book goes ~ its a beautiful cookbook, quirky and awesome pictures that make you want to make the cupcake even if you dont particularly like the flavouring just because it looks so good! The recipes are simple and easy to follow, mostly made with ingredients you can buy from your local supermarket. It seems that the recipes are flexible too in that you can swap ingredients around depending to what you have... One of the recipes i made for example called for strawberry essence (which i didnt have) so i used strawberry liquid milkshake mix (which i noticed was called for in another of her recipes) ~ result was as it should be and tasted perfect!

As you get to know the recipes im sure you could alter the recipes to make more cupcakes with ease... I did find both times round that i made 16cupcakes instead of 12 but maybe i just made them smaller than Miss Melicious would. Also in one recipe i found i had double the amount of icing that i actually needed (which i didnt mind as i just froze to use at a later date) and in the other i had just the right amount ~ again this is something you could alter as you get to know the recipes better.

Will definitely be recommending to others, as well as buying for Christmas presents! :)

I have never had much success with cupcakes and they are normally dry and not so nice so I was really excited to see if I could finally produce some edible cupcakes. I am pleased to say that I have succeeded and two days after producing 45 cupcakes I am just finishing the last one and everyone who has tried them thought they were really, really yummy!

Firstly visually this book is just gorgeous. Each cupcake is presented and photographed with props to match. The pictures are so well staged that it is almost worth buying the book just to look at the amazing pictures! Although a few of the cupcake recipes you will be able to make from your usual pantry items most of the cupcakes will require a trip to the supermarket (and the bottle store). I have discovered that vanilla bean paste should be in my pantry and I need to get a better array of icing nozzles!

Each recipe comes with a beautiful photo and how to make the cupcake and the accompanying icing. The ingredient list and instructions are clear and easy to follow. I would have liked to have known what icing nozzle to use for each cupcake to be able to replicate the look in the photos though. Aside from the fantastic photos what else I love about this book is that the recipes are not your usual cupcake recipes. Many of them require alcohol and are incredibly original. These really are cupcakes to drool over. I can't wait to make my next batch and there are cupcakes for lots of different occasions. Most of these would be worthy of serving as a dessert they look so yummy.

The Creamsicle cupcakes and the Pink Lemonade were just so moist and yummy. The Pink Lemonade cupcakes will probably be a bit of a staple food in our house now as they are so moorish, moist and so easy to make. I found also that I was able to get 15 regular cupcakes not 12 out of each batch so that was good. This really is a must in any mums kitchen and with Christmas coming up a perfect gift.

This is the best cupcake cookbook I have ever owned, in fact the best cookbook full stop. Ever since I won the book I have been drooling over the pictures deciding what to make first, everything sounds so yummy and I just want to make them all.

I made the Creamsicle cupcakes today as they sounded really yummy and I had an abundance of fresh oranges on my trees to make them with. The recipe was really easy to follow and was so simple. I think anyone could use this recipe as there was no special techniques or special ingredients. The cupcakes were to die for a awesome refreshing orange flavour, and the icing too was so nice. I opted not to use the orange essence in the icing and it really didn't need it as it had heaps of orange flavour anyway.

I have read through most of the recipes and they all seem easy to follow and most of the ingredients you can just buy at the local supermarket. I will have to go further afield to find bubblegum essence but I just have to make the Bubblegum cupcakes they sound so yummy. Also I like how they are fairly easy to decorate so even an amateur like me can do it!! The photos presented with each recipe are great. I love how they are each stylised to reflect the recipe rather than just a standard image of just the cupcake. Excellent presentation all around the cover is really appealing as you get a sense of this is not your average Cupcake book.

It is my birthday next week and I think I might have to try the Vodka Cupcakes next as a treat for me and my girlfriends. This book is going to be my favourite and my daughter has presented me with a list of things she wants me to make next too.

Packed with the most amazing cupcake recipes I have come across in ages, this is a book for foodies who love to make stunning baked goods.

I was fortunate enough to have a chat with Miss Mel on the phone a short while ago, and she was up front an honest about the recipes. "They're really nothing secret, some basic recipes that you can swap ingredients in and out of to give a huge range of flavours." So, the big secret is, there's no real secret... just a set of flexible basic 'kits' that you can adjust to suit your preferences and ingredients available.

Probably one of the highlight recipes in the book for me, and a prime example of how you can 'tweak' things to suit, was the "Creamsicle" cupcake. The recipe calls for fresh orange juice, but I have access to a lemon tree that seems to think it's part kudzu, because it has pretty much drowned out all the surrounding shrubbery and drops more lemons in a day than I could use in a week. So it was a no-brainer to try this with fresh-squeezed lemon juice instead. Ah-May-ZING! Especially when I did a modified Orange Butter Icing to match. (Same page in the book, again just swapping Orange Juice out and Lemon Juice in.) I also did a batch of these using the Barker's Orange and Barley with Passionfruit Fruit Syrup instead of the fresh juice and this added a lovely three-layer flavour to the cupcake.

Overall, what impressed me the most about this book is the sheer character of it. It's fun, quirky, and a bit outrageous without falling over the line into bad taste - in any sense of the phrase. Quite a lot like it's author, really. Wink Icon Special bonuses for me include the last two pages, containing some extra goodies you can use - After 8 Mousse, Grapefruit Curd, Marshmallow Fluff and Candied Bacon Bits. Like I said, a bit quirky. I was also pleased to see that, though it's mainly about cupcakes, it also contained a couple of yummy Whoopie Pie recipes too. Brilliant stuff, and will have a place of honour on my cookbook shelf.
