My daughter was recently gifted this book as a prize for her acheivements in reading from her school. She is always super excited when she gets a new book, regardless of the reason behind it. Like her, I am also really excited when she gets a new book, and I can not wait to read it with her. We always read together at some point each and every day.

The Emperors new clotheshorse is a rather random take on the original story The Emperors new clothes. I often wonder each time I see a new version of an old favourite, how they can re-write it yet again. Well this time, The Emperors new clothes has been completely re-written/ revamped... given a whole new life if you will. And I personally do not like it. The story annoys me. Possibly because I find it to be completely stupid and not at all believable. Ignorant people annoy me, so the storyline just frustrated me personally lol

Miss 7 however thinks it is a great book. Obviously read before at school, she delighted and laughed away happily while telling me all about her new book before we even got home. It has a hard cover, I like that. It has quirky fun pictures, I like that. If I didn't find the storyline so sily, I would like the book a whole lot more. But thisuunfortunately is one of those books I do roll my eyes when she asks me to read it. So my review score takez into account how much my daughter likes the book. If reviewed on my opinion only the score would be lower.

The Emperor's New Clothes has always been one of my favourite traditional fairy-tales. This book appealed to me simply because it was a twist on the old story and could probably have been a sequel. I only wish I had a copy of the original to share with the children before I read this to them.

The illustrations are very clear and uncluttered with simple white backgrounds which makes it ideal for young children. The text is down the side of the page which had the added benefit that I was still able to read the words when my darlings were pointing to things in the pictures.

I read this story to children ranging in age from 2 to 6 years . It was most popular with the four year olds and the six year old. I think this was probably due to the vocabulary used throughout the book. I would be curious to see how this would be received by children with a knowledge of horse racing. I suspect they would love it even more.

The only drawback with this book is that my clothes horses have been used as horses with the children trying to climb on them and ride them.

Well Miss Four finds this book hilarious. I love the cover page which says it all really. The Emperor is fooled into believing that the clothes horse will win the elusive Cristobel Cup. Of course the young stablehand Frankie can't quite understand all the fuss and how on earth all the adults think the clothes horse can race is beyond him.

The layout of the book is different to the norm for childrens picture books with the words in clear type on either side of the book and the illustrations taking up the centre of the page. I actually really liked this layout and thought it complemented the illustrations. I loved the simplicity of the illustrations. They are possibly pen and watercolour? However they are done I enjoyed looking at the pictures. The whole book is visually very pleasing as well as having a very funny story.

This is a lovely simple story that has been well thought out in it's production and that I have enjoyed reading to my girls. This book would suit boys and girls alike six years and under.
