I enjoyed reading this book. It is the first grown up book I have read in a couple of years so was a good introduction into reading again as it was easy to read and it was a relatively short book with a really good storyline that drew you into reading the story. The book was centered around the main character Ted and her older teenage sister Ava. Ava was a natural beauty, film star material. While Ted was not the sterotypical image of beauty with her monobrow and long lanky legs. Ava dressed beautifully while Ted dressed in more casual comfortable clothes.

However one day while out busking in town Ted was spotted by a modelling scout and was told she would make a perfect model. Ava convinced Ted that it had to be a scam, and that the model scout was just out to get money out of Ted and she would never make a good model. So Ted at first forgot about it and dismissed it as a scam herself. Not far into the story Ava is diagnosed with Lymphoma cancer and becomes really ill. Ted eventually gets into the modelling and scores a few jobs from a couple of different model agencies.

I like how in the story the two girls start off with a normal teenage girl relationship where they are not very close. Throughout the story and as Ava becomes ill the girls grow closer and their relationship develops with Ted even shaving her head to support her sister when she lost her hair to the cancer treatment. I think it is a relationship that many people with sisters can relate to. I enjoyed how Ted who started off lacking in self confidence and was often the butt of other people's jokes about her appearance, became so full of confidence and was noticed for her beauty. As she grew up and became more in to the modelling she started dressing more like her sister Ava and met a good boyfriend.

To be a good sister she gave up the modelling so she could concentrate on being a good sister to Ava and helping her get better. It was fascinating seeing the characters change and develop throughout the story and just goes to show how something like cancer can pull people closer together and learn to appreciate each other more.

I would definetly recommend this story to others to read as it is a really good read and it is a storyline I feel people would be able to relate well to.

Product reviews for listing 9114: Lopini the Legend
Written by Feana Tu'akoi

Product image for Lopini the LegendWhen Lopini is replaced as kapa haka leader at school, he starts to spiral. It doesn't matter that he thinks it is a good idea, or that he agreed to the change in the first place. He's a hard-out perfectionist and this feels like a public failure.

Lopini's best mate, Fi, thinks he's overreacting. After all, he's so successful that everyone at school calls him Lopini the Legend. But Lopini still freaks out ... more...
