Brian Saves Christmas product reviews

Proud to promote NZ productsNew Zealand's answer to Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer.

When one of Santa's sheep discovers he's going to be a dad, he is overjoyed!

His time as a daddy had finally begun,
there was so much he wanted for Brian, his son.

But alas! Brian turns out to be a runt who is more interested in books and star-gazing. Until, one foggy Christmas Eve... Brian saves the day!

I bought this book for Christmas 2011 to share with my daughter. We already had "A Kiwi Night Before Christmas" and loved it. So I was excited to see another Kiwi Christmas adaption available.

Brian the sheep is born, and while his parents are very proud of him, dad has some big hopes. Unfortunately, Brian isn't quite what his dad had expected. He is way too into books!

What I loved about this is that even though there is disappointment in Brian's ability, you never get the impression that Brian is made to feel less of a sheep because of it. And in the end the geek makes good. Just going to prove that we all have something to offer, even if we don't seem like much. That old saying "Don't judge a book" comes to mind in fact.

We love this book and we read it alternately with "A Kiwi Night Before Christmas" all the way through the Christmas season. And sometimes, even outside of December!

"Brian Saves Christmas" is a very enthralling read. The story has a very Kiwi'ana feel to it, and has been created beautifully with catchy rhyming all the way through.

It is definitely the Kiwi version to "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer".

The illustrations are very eye catching, and appealing to young children. This was definitely a hit with the kids at Christmas time, with it being pulled out again in Christmases to come I bet!

The song at the end of the book is also great. My daughter loved it when I sang it to her, I think it was because it was so unique.

What a lovely little Kiwi book to be reading at Christmas.

I love how the story flows to the equivalent of 'The Night Before Christmas' but on a kiwi level. Once again, it's not the popular sheep, or the strong sheep that saves the day, but Brian, the scrawny thin lamb.

To top the story off, at the end you have a kiwi rendition of Rudolf the Red Nose Reindeer - only it's Brian the Big-Brained Romney.

My girls loved the book and I enjoyed reading it to them so definitely one I would recommend..... especially at Christmas

Product reviews for listing 1021: I Didn't do it for You: How the world betrayed a small African nation -  Written by Michela Wrong

Product image for I DidnScarred by decades of conflict and occupation, the craggy African nation of Eritrea has weathered the world's longest-running guerilla war.

The dogged determination that secured victory against Ethiopia, its giant neighbour, is woven into the national psyche, the product of a series of cynical foreign interventions.

Fascist Italy wanted Eritrea as the springboard for a new, racially pure Roman empire, Britain sold off its industry for scrap, the United States needed a base for its state-of-the-art spy station, and the Soviet Union used it as a pawn in a proxy war.
